Congratulations to Bay City Swing. The Sacramento Jazz Jubilee was a big success. The Band has been invited to 5 other festivals on the west coast (San Francisco, Monterey, San Diego……). These guys all hail from Coos Bay proper.

The Oregon Coast Historical Railway is pleased to welcome back to the Bay Area a cherished piece of local history -- the Snug Harbor Railroad. This charming miniature steam engine, complete with a tender, three open gondola cars and a caboose ran in Charleston in the 1950s and early 1960s, much to delight of youngsters and railfans of all ages.

It was recently rediscovered in storage in Northern California, and negotiations led to its purchase by the Oregon Coast Historical Railway in Coos Bay. It’s been returned to the Bay Area, where the OCHR is restoring it for display at our museum in Coos Bay. We hope it can be brought back to operating condition in the near future for a whole new generation to enjoy.

Abandoned and forgotten, this 1927 Ohio locomotive steam crane has been returned home to Coos County and may one day be operational again thanks to the efforts of Oregon Coast Historical Railway volunteers. Saved from scrap, OCHR president Dick Jamsgard traveled to Camp 6 in Point Defiance Park, Tacoma Washington, and with help from Don Parsio of Myrtle Creek, dismantled the steam crane and prepared it for moving. Two local trucking comapnies donated three trucks and drivers to transport this 75-ton crane and it was unloaded June 28, 2012 at the museum property in Coos Bay Oregon. Volunteers are working to restore the steam crane to operating condition. It worked in Coos County 1927 - 1933 moving logs and helping build bridges.
