The Mopar "Slant-6" is widely ranked as one of the greatest and most durable internal combustion engines ever built. Affectionately nicknamed the "Leaning Tower of Power", it is historically celebrated for its "bulletproof" engineering. In major automotive publications, it frequently secures a top spot on all-time lists, including being ranked as the #6 Top Engine of All Time by automotive enthusiasts.

Taking care of brakes. We are by no means foreign car enthusiasts. We barely have enough room for our 90 American displays. But this German built 1939 Hanomag is extremely rare. It's one of just 6 that remain. Four in Europe, one in Nashville, and ours. The big mystery is, it's been in the US since 1939. But in '39 there's already animosity between Germany and the rest of the world. There was no import, export, trade, anything. So no one will ever know how it got here. 🤔

I went over to a friend's house to see how he's coming along on his 1932 Hupmobile. Beautiful car. It was an upper echelon car with a hefty price in '32. That was the company's undoing. Hupmobile previously had a strong returning clientele for over 2 decades. The cars were rugged, practical, and highly affordable. Then Hupmobile completely alienated their customer base by entering the junior luxury car market. That market was already dominated by established high-end auto makers and the expensive Hupmobile as a contender couldn't get a foot in the door of that market. The firey sales that Hupmobile enjoyed as a practical car dwindled to a flicker during the 1930s, and the flame went out in 1940.

This 1916 Haynes has been a resident here in our Johnson County longer than anyone else. It was specifically styled to resemble the fuselage and cockpit of a biplane. It was purchased new by Wesley Sirowy (Sero-way) of Swisher, Iowa. It served as the family car until 1932 when Mr, Sirowy bought a brand new Nash. The Haynes was relegated to a lesser role. The back half of the car, including the back seat and trunk, was cut off and replaced by a make-shift wooden truck bed. It served as a farm truck for about another 20 years. By the early 1950s, it was nearly impossible to find the obsolete 34 x 4 inch tires required for the vehicle. So Mr. Sirowy sold the truck to Pozenski's Scrap Yard. An employee at the scrap yard had a friend, Dan Bezak, who he knew would be interested in such a vehicle. Mr. Bezak bought the vehicle. He asked who brought in the Haynes and was told Wesley Sirowy had. Dan Bezak knew of Sirowy and visited his farm to learn the car's history. During their conversation Mr. Sirowy asked, "Would you like to take the back half of the car too?" True story.

Thank you Charlotte for this gorgeous '37 Chrysler. It will get a lot of attention at the museum.

Our newest friend to the museum, Charlotte, lives west of Waterloo, Iowa. She donated this fantastic 1937 Chrysler Imperial which we're all very proud of. Very smooth running 8-cylinder engine and the whole car reeks of luxury. Thank you, Charlotte.
