We are so incredibly honored to pass the Texas Surf Culture torch to TAMUCC and stoked to get out and about around the Coastal Bend with the Texas Surf Conservancy who can fulfill the TSM mission by making an impact for the people who love our beaches.

Stay tuned for whatโ€™s to come in this space downtown!๐Ÿค™๐Ÿผ

The Texas Surf Museum opened in 2005 and became a nonprofit in 2014.

It is bittersweet to announce that the Texas Surf Museum is closing its doors as a cultural institution and will transition to a nonprofit marine conservation organization called Texas Surf Conservancy (TSC). Our last day of operations will be Sunday, September 4th. We will miss seeing you in the Museum but are grateful to be able to position ourselves to be able to respond to relevant and timely issues that threaten Texasโ€™ beaches and coastal habitats. Our long history of working with Harte Research Institute (HRI) at TAMU-CC, the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration (NOAA), the Texas General Land Office, and many other science and conservation groups, has provided a solid foundation for the Museum to begin this new and exciting chapter of its existence.

Moving forward, Texas Surf Conservancy will own and operate the Sink Your Shucks, an oyster shell recycling program that collects shucked oyster shells from local restaurants and returns them to local bays, providing both substrate to form new reefs and habitat for fish, crabs, and other organisms. Sink Your Shucks was started in 2009 as a collaborative effort between HRI, Water Street Oyster Bar, and the Museum. The Conservancy is proud to be handed the torch to advance this critical initiative, which will be its primary focus.

We are stoked to share with the public that the History Department at Texas A&M Corpus Christi is in the process of creating an archive to document and store the TSM collection of art, historical photographs, surf boards and memorabilia, and other treasures that highlight our region's rich coastal history. Some of this will still be available to the public through the University. Stay tuned for more information!
