Attaining Signature Membership (AWS) in the American Watercolor Society is extremely difficult because it requires having your paintings accepted into their highly competitive Annual International Exhibition.

Today's design reminder: one of the easiest ways to create a cohesive space is by paying attention to tone rather than theme.

A warm wood frame paired with warm wood floors, or artwork with cooler tones in a room that already leans cool, can instantly make a space feel more intentional.

Nothing has to match perfectly. Wood grains don't need to be identical, and neither do the colors throughout your room. Simply deciding whether your space feels predominantly warm or cool is a great place to start.

And don't be afraid to mix in the opposite tone here and there. A little contrast often adds the interest that makes a room feel complete.

Today's Feature: "Abstract Sunflowers"

Do YOU remember Bethany Beach?

I began painting watercolors there 50 years ago!

The long weekend kicks off tomorrow, and my Labor Day sale is live now! Code LABOR2026 for 20% off my available artwork through Monday.

"Peach Gladiolas" is part of it, worth a look before the weekend gets going.

From my collection, this is: "Afternoon Glow"

Shop At: https://www.micheleizzo.net

Afternoon Glow came together as I watched the sunlight stream across the orchestra. That warm, golden light filled the room with quiet energy. I focused on the rhythm of the players' postures, the crisp whites of their shirts, and the deep shadows beneath. The conductor's raised hand gave the whole scene direction. I used layered washes and bold shapes to echo the harmony I felt in that moment. Every brushstroke was guided by the music in the room!

This is one of the principles
that has guided my work for decades.

I painted this after being struck by how little information the scene actually needed. A few buildings, the dock, boats, and the pale sky were enough to make the location recognizable.

This is one of the things I love most about watercolor. It lets me suggest rather than explain everything.

The original is currently available!

You can see "Martha's Vineyard at Oak Bluffs" through the link in my bio!

There's a moment every collector remembers, standing in front of a work and just knowing.

"Viking Tug 2008" has had that moment with a few collectors.

What's the story behind the first work of art that ever stopped you in your tracks?
