For our first summer program we learned all about the "golden grain", wheat!

We discussed how a wild grain that was once foraged for food became one of America's first major cash crops and the major impact it had on the growth of Ohio.

After uncovering this story of innovation, invention, and commerce we made our very own wheat dolls to take home!

Join us next Monday, June 8th, at 10AM in the Roscoe Schoolhouse to see what tricks and tools historians use to learn about people of the past.

Children must be registered at the following link:
www.roscoevillage.com/explore/youth/summer-programs/
Each child should be registered individually.
Cash fee of $1.00 per child required at the start of each program.

Special thank you to Coshocton Foundation for making this program possible!

Music, memories, and little magic are coming to Historic Roscoe Village!

Introducing Captain Nye’s Harmony Park, inspired by Captain Nye, who wrote and sang songs about life along the canal.

Now under construction, the new pavilion will create space for events, summer programs, rentals, performances, and enhanced visitor experiences. A musical playground for children and families will also be installed soon.

“Harmony” reflects more than music it represents a community coming together to invest in the future of Roscoe Village.

This project is made possible through a major investment from the Roscoe Village Foundation, with support from the Coshocton Rotary Foundation, Johnson-Humrickhouse Museum Foundation, and Coshocton Foundation

Part of the Foundation’s Elevate the Legacy Initiative … creating spaces where moments matter, with more exciting improvements still to come.

Unfortunately a large tree fell across the canal and we will need to cancel rides for today. Our team and some volunteers are working now but it will take awhile. We appreciate their grit . If you have a ticket you can exchange for another day or for a canal discovery walk tour through Roscoe Village. Go to the Visitors Center for details.

This Memorial Day, we honor and remember the brave men and women who gave their lives in service to our country.

Long before Memorial Day had a name, canal towns like Roscoe understood sacrifice deeply. In the 1800’s laborers carved the Ohio & Erie Canal by hand through hardship, danger, exhaustion, and loss helping build a young America one mile at a time.

Today, their spirit still echoes through some of the original buildings, along the towpath, and beside the water that continues to carry their story forward.

May we never forget those who gave everything for the freedoms we share today.
