One of those who survived the Titanic was on her way to Cottage Grove when her ship went down. Marian Wright, was engaged to Mr. Woolcott, and had booked passage on the newly christened ocean liner. Thanks to folks she had made acquaintance with on the voyage who made sure she got on one of the lifeboats. Of the few personal items she managed to save, her ‘“Lucky Coat” was the most useful, keeping her warm over her sleepwear as the survivors, huddled in the lifeboat awaiting rescue. Everything else including her wardrobe and wedding gifts all went down with the ship. Come see the “Lucky Coat” along with other artifacts that tell the fascinating tale of Marian Wright Woolcott who lived out her life here in Cottage Grove.

ON THIS DAY: In 1912, the British luxury liner RMS Titanic sunk in the North Atlantic off Newfoundland just over two and a half hours after hitting an iceberg on its maiden voyage. Over 1,500 people died; 710 survived. https://abcnews.visitlink.me/En_DJl
