During art class today, I gave my Third Grade class an opportunity to draw anything they wanted, since this was our first time meeting. It’s always exciting to me to have them create what they feel without me directing the subject, especially if it’s our first class. With the 20th Anniversary of 9/11 coming up tomorrow, this fantastic picture is what one of my students (Third Grade!) decided to draw and color. The feelings those of us felt when we heard and experienced what happened on 9/11 should be told to all so that future generations will remember, and, as well, the unity our country showed. This picture really touched me in its completeness. Bravo. 💕

A shout out to one of my Fourth Graders! Last week we were working on the Dragon’s Eye lesson. My student was working sooo diligently on it! This morning, he proudly came into my art room with his finished picture and presented me with a copy. He is so proud of it, that he made copies!! Way to go, Brayden! You make me proud! 💕

In honor of Black History Month, Fourth and Fifth Graders learned about artist Faith Ringgold and her story quilts. She combined quilted frames and illustrations to tell the story of “Tar Beach”, a children’s book she wrote about a little girl in Harlem who imagined she could fly over her Harlem neighborhood.
