I'm helping out the family of Howard Hammond as they go through his estate. This was the first great photo I think I will post. It is in the Covington book but I'm not sure all of the information on it was available for the book. This is W H Hudson's grocery located on the corner of Hawthorne and Maple where the O'Gara building now stands. This would be about 1901-02. Left to right is W H Hudson, his son Perrow F Hudson, and Warner W Burch Sr.

I found this photo at the Lewisburg flea market at the fair grounds. It is the house known for housing the town offices but I am not certain when they first moved there. This photo could be before that. The upstairs sign says Dentist: Dr Woods, and the lower sign says Rooms (hotel?), ca 1920s. love the outfits.

Carrie Eyler Buhrman was born in Gala in Botetourt County in 1887. She graduated from Randolph-Macon Women's College in 1910 and was elected the R-M alumni representative to serve overseas with the YMCA in WWI. She arrived in France about the time of the armistice and served overseas until early 1920. She came home and married Charles Blakeslee Nettleton (better know as C B) in 1921. This is her YMCA uniform which was sold recently at the estate sale at the family house Carlton on the Ridge. I found the picture of her in the YMCA uniform from the findagrave website. I also include a postcard photo included in the auction with several YMCA women in the hopes that someone on here will recognize her as I am having trouble with a straight head-on picture versus the somewhat side view of the other photo. The uniform has had the Army of Occupation (A surrounded by O, 3rd Army) patch removed and is missing one of the collar patches a triangle with US inside which signifies a civilian.
