While doing research for the recent hospital re-opening, I noticed A LOT of newspaper ads about all of the wonderful things the first baby and their family would get. I believe there were 91 businesses in all that donated over $1,000 in merchandise!! Google says that would be over $12,000 today! I am skimming through the ads, and will put some of them here:
A $10 savings account from Nebraska Farm products.
$3.00 in cash from Herman S. Nilsson
"Four Sacks of Good Potatoes" from German-Hoff Potato Company
Ten gallons of gasoline and one oil change from Frontier Refining Company
A Baby silverware set from Umshler's Body Shop
$50 off the hospital bill from Barta & Garner, Edward Nielsen, Good Insurance, Wayman May, and Thompson Insurance agencies
A carton of ci******es and a box of candy from Mr & Mrs. P.T. George
So, at 10:06 a.m., on April 8, Larry Nye, son of Mr. & Mrs. Nye Bond, was delivered by Dr. C.H. Sheets. They baby weighed 6 lb. 9 oz.

I'm not sure on this one, but I'll guess. I think this is east of town, maybe when the sheep feedlot was converted to cattle? Does anyone know?

Blessed Memorial Day!!
I was shocked to find this display as I came in a few minutes ago. This is a "Missing Man Table," also called a "Fallen Comrade Table," and are often made for Memorial Day.
You can see it through the window any time, but we should be open until 4 p.m. today!

This is apparently an ad for Dairy Queen. It's on his hat and his wagon.Or maybe just going to a parade?

Isn't this a great photo? I believe this was taken in Yellowstone National Park. The stagecoach is similar to the one here at the Museum.
I wonder about the people riding on top. Our stagecoach has what looks like luggage racks on the top. Hopefully the one in the photo has something more comfortable!

Thank you to Marvin Berryman for posting this a ways back. This picture shows the Union Pacific Depot being picked up and moved, and I think rotated, before being put back down.
I have been looking for more info on this. I found an article in the North Platte Telegraph from 1991 saying the Depot had been recently moved about 100 feet north, no mention of it being rotated. This was when the building was converted to a community center.
I found a Cozad Local article from 1924 saying the city desperately needed a new depot. I believe the old depot was moved east to D street and held several different businesses, including Weber Trucking.

Happened on this photo today. I had never heard of the "American Red Cross Casino Club," so I've been doing some research.
Apparently this is in Nice, France. (I've been there!)
It sounds like this was the headquarters for the U.S.R.R.A., which I've also never heard of:
At the U.S.R.R.A. soldiers were billeted for a nominal fee of 100 francs (i.e. $2) in some of the finest hotels in the world and could visit bars and nightclubs or take excursions to nearby towns. Rules were minimal, curfew was at 1:00 a.m. and saluting was banned. By June 1945 over 6,000 American soldiers a week were enjoying everything the U.S.R.R.A. had to offer and a general sentiment was that it was "the best thing the U.S. Army ever did."
