🪩 Wakulla County Historical Society Presents: That '70s Party! 🕺🏾💃

Let us take you back to the 1970s! Dust off those bellbottoms, grab your platform shoes, and get ready to groove! Mark your calendars (or jot it down in your datebooks) for Friday, January 29, from 6:00 PM to 9:30 PM at the Wakulla County Community Center.

Join us as we travel back in time to celebrate the music, fashion, and unforgettable spirit of the 1970s. From funk, soul, rock n' roll, and disco, we're bringing a little history back to the dance floor. We'll also have dinner, games, contests, and prizes. So, come on and boogie like it's 1979!

Stay tuned for ticket and sponsorship information. This dance party will be a fundraising event for the Wakulla County Historical Society's Heritage Village Project.

🥘 Dinner
Pulled pork, BBQ chicken, potato salad, baked beans, greens, cabbage, cornbread, cake and other desserts, tea, coffee, water, and more.

💬 Guest Speaker
Wakulla's own James S. Dunbar will share his expertise on the 1528 expedition and a new theory about more specific locations. Jim S. Dunbar is a renowned archaeologist with a BA from UF and a Master's and a Ph.D. from FSU. He worked for the Florida Bureau of Archaeological Research (BAR) for 35.5 years before retirement.

⚓ Few areas in the Americas can celebrate a Quincentennial. Still, in two years, Wakulla County can and will celebrate the expedition of Spanish explorer Panfilo de Narvaez, who came here and lived with his men for a couple of months in 1528. The primary assumption is that Narvaez landed his ships, entered Florida at Tampa Bay, and camped at the Old Fort Peninsula in today's St. Marks.

💥 Come and Join Us!

Saturday, September 26, 2026, from 9 am to 4 pm at San Marcos de Apalache Historic State Park (148 Old Fort Road, St. Marks, Florida) for the 2nd Annual Confederate Encampment at Fort Ward

The public is invited to join us as local reenactors share the historic role of Confederate Fort Ward during the American Civil War. Musket and artillery demonstrations will take place throughout the day, along with demonstrations of camp life and campfire cooking.

The Ladies Soldiers Friend Sewing Society will serve as an Aid Society, providing comforts and refreshments to soldiers and mending as needed. The Park’s museum displays numerous artifacts and features an 18-minute video that recounts over three centuries of military history at the site (Spanish, British, American, and Confederate).

A picnic area with picnic tables and barbecue grills is available. Tucker’s Point offers scenic views at the water’s edge where the St. Marks River joins the Wakulla River and flows into Apalache Bay. The Point is an excellent fishing spot.

We hope to see you there!
