The historical context of our lives is fundamental to how the past shapes our community’s present and future. We will be a vital resource for making our common history accessible, interesting and meaningful to all. We will be recognized as the principal repository and resource for the collected history of Fruitland Peninsula. We will advocate for the preservation of historic sites and structures in our community. Our Society welcomes all members of our community who have contributed to or have an interest in this area’s unique history – schools, churches, individuals and organizations representing the contributions of all cultures and ethnicities. Our Mission
Our Mission is to bring together people to discover, promote and preserve the history of the Fruitland Peninsula so that future generations can know and benefit from our rich heritage, cultures, and traditions.

We appreciate the Fruitland Historical Society members’ kindness in donating the Belle sign to GFWC Crescent City Woman’s Club. We plan to have the sign touched up to refresh the paint, before we re- hang it. Belle also mentioned that she needed a face makeup touch-up too. Pictured from left to right are Cherie Register, Katherine Murray, Molly Morris, Sheila Kaye, Carol Horner, and Susan Frazier; all members of the Historical Society and the GFWC CCWC. We are all excited that the sign will be restored.

A little rain didn't dampen spirits for This Place Matters!

On Thursday, April 30th almost 20 people dodged some light rain to distribute the "This Place Matters" signs to 60 locations across the Crescent City Historic District. This is the fourth year of the project designed to raise awareness of the importance of historic preservation to the community. The signs have a QR code that is read by your smart phone and connects to a webpage about the history of each site. You can learn more at fphistory.com.

Thank you to all of the wonderful volunteers who braved the showers to help celebrate the month of May as Historic Preservation Month!
The signs will be in place throughout the month, don't muss your chance to try them out!

The historic marker unveiling was wonderful! Beautiful weather today made for a great backdrop, too.

"The Star Theater: A Forgotten Piece of History
This video revives the golden era of the old Star Theater, now functioning as a storage warehouse for a nearby hardware store. Viewers join local historian Cherie Register on a walking tour to see what remains of this historic site. Architect Rick Bowles presents various versions of the theater, from its beginnings in 1917 to its closure in 1960, using a dynamic 3-D interpretive model. Crescent City, Florida, known as the City Between the Lakes, offers a scenic setting worth exploring. We encourage everyone visiting northeast Florida to stop by and experience it for themselves.

This video is a sponsored by the Fruitland Peninsula Historical Society (FPHS). We meet September through May, 3rd Thursday, 4:00 p.m. All are welcome.
