My church is doing a “parable of the talents” fundraiser to replace the well worn carpet. We were given a $20 dollar bill to invest and hopefully increase in any way we desired.

I bought a canvas and painted “Olive Tree”.

Olive trees have long been a favorite of mine, there is something peaceful about being near one olive tree or in a grove of olive trees. The beautiful color range of thin green leaves, seemingly so fragile and yet quite strong. The organic, free flowing way the tree trunk and branches grow inspires restfulness. Of course I love olives and olive oil. I once had the opportunity and honor to harvest olives for a local olive oil company. Raking the leaves to pull the olives onto the covered ground was the hardest physical day of work I have ever experienced but it was also one of the most amazing, being that close to the trees. Under it, touching it, working with it to carefully remove the olives. In this painting, I hoped to capture the free flowing fullness of the tree while still creating a feeling of closeness to it.

If you choose to place a bid, I will keep you updated on the auction status. Please include your name and bid amount in your text.
Kinda reminds me of the early Ebay days!
I greatly appreciate your support whether you choose to place a bid or maybe “share” this with people you know. 😊

Inspired by the many surfing movies and shows I watched growing up with a dad and two brothers who surfed - like Endless Summer and countless others. I was always so moved by the footage photographers were able to capture from inside the waves. The power of those huge ocean waves rising, curling and crashing down with a big show of colors and light moving in such a beautiful way in the water. I chose to paint this piece in one sitting, which is very unusual for me. Working with wet oil paint, pushing the paint with the brush to achieve a sense of movement in the wave, blending colors to reveal shadows and reflections. The oranges of the sun setting in the background provided the perfect contrast to the blues in the wave. I used a palette knife to add texture, especially to the front of the wave where the water begins to separate as it comes back down, heading for its dramatic crashing finale. The original “Big Wave At Sunset” is a 12” x 12” oil painting on canvas.
