Here's a poem I wrote in 1987....
Juniper Wind
~~~~~~~~~
Juniper scent on the sigh of the wind-
The forest seems restless today.
The evergreens murmur
With heads bent together.
Old snow melts and muddies the way.
The Stellar Jay scolds me for being here
Or maybe for staying away.
The chickadees scatter
With whistle and chatter,
Ignoring my plea that they stay.
The flowers are buds tightly folded still
And aspens are still winter-lean
The icicle armor,
The frosty leaf-warmer
Safekeeping a promise of green.
Now springtime is trying to whisper
And free us from winter's regime-
The sun getting warmer
And days growing longer
Make winter seem just like a dream.
