We are thrilled about this new addition to the WCU Apodaca Science Building. Check out the full post and story below!

A new sculpture by Spruce Pine artist Hoss Haley, titled Staurolite, will be installed outside the WCU Apodaca Science Building on April 10, 2023.

The sculpture is part of a comprehensive initiative within the Apodaca Science Building spearheaded by WCU’s Public Art Committee and the WCU Fine Art Museum. Staurolite is one in a series of art installations in the new Apodaca building with a meaningful connection to the building’s design concepts, the Cherokee history of the site, and the sciences practiced by students and faculty in the building.

Hoss Haley's Staurolite is a 12-foot representation of a Staurolite Twin, a native mineral found in the Western North Carolina region. Haley designed the sculpture with local geography and history in mind.

Be on the lookout for future art installations in the Apodaca Building and a conversation with Haley about his sculpture. If you want to learn more about the sculpture, click the link in our bio or visit https://www.wcu.edu/stories/posts/News/2023/03/new-sculpture-coming-to-wcus-apodaca-science-building.aspx

Rendering was created by the artist, Hoss Haley.
