Plus other research materials, such as old newspapers, day books, family files, family photos, pictures of old local homes. Should these hours not be convenient, we can set up an appointment to meet with you at the Historical Society.

Armed Forces Day Craft Market Invitation: We invite all veterans and active military personnel to attend our Craft Market on Saturday, May 16, 2026, from 9:00 AM to 4:00 PM, located at the corner of School Street and Pilgrim Mill Road. A tent will be reserved for veterans and active military personnel to engage with attendees and share their stories. Your presence is greatly appreciated, and we salute your dedication to our country.

A substantial donation of $5800.00 has been made to the Sherrill House restoration project by an individual preferring anonymity. The donor has specified that their gift be acknowledged solely by an invitation to others to contribute an amount of their choosing in support of the project.

Should you wish to participate as a vendor or volunteer, please inform us accordingly. 10x10 booth space is $75. for non-members, $50. for Historical Society members, Veterans or Active Military.

WE NEED YOUR HELP: Historic Preservation Alert: we need anyone interested in the Historic Preservation Tax break for those individuals and businesses willing to do the research and submit the appropriate application for approval for the Georgia Register of Historic Places before being sent to National for consideration for the National Register of Historic Places. The problem is we have GA State Senators including our local Senator Greg Dolezal are against this bill, even wanting to go as far as completely eliminating what is already in place. Please contact all of your GA Senators and express the need for Historic Preservation.

Reminder: The Historical Society and friends will be honoring Dr Gene J. Bottoms, a 1954 graduate of Cu***ng High School, this Sunday from 3pm-5pm, program begins at 3pm with light refreshments afterwards. Gene has authored and published over 200 books and papers now housed at the University of Georgia. He has completed over 60 years in Education from the local level to the Federal. Please RSVP to [email protected]
