At this time of the year, Linda Buikema is our Bunkhouse Gallery’s Featured Artist
Linda Buikema, a native Floridian, has lived off and on in Texas for 42 years. Drawn to art since a small child, Linda took every art class available in high school, including pottery at the local art museum. She graduated from The University of the South with a B.A. in Fine Arts with a focus on photography and drawing. After living in Dallas, Anchorage, Plano, Southern California, and England, Linda's family finally landed in Houston in 2000. The art scene there allowed for unlimited opportunities to learn and grow. She made painting her focus and looked for ways to distinguish her art from others.
Acrylics on canvas are her main medium, although she enjoys experimenting with collage and watercolors. Her palette is heavily influenced by her love for the original Key West Fabrics used by Lilly Pulitzer. For inspiration, she follows the art of Tracy Verdugo, Teil Duncan, and Erin Gregory. She moved to the Austin area in 2013 and became an active member of the Lakeway Painters. She has been painting with the Bunkhouse since April 2019 and finds lots of inspiration from the fellow artists out there.
