At this time of the year, Linda Buikema is our Bunkhouse Gallery’s Featured Artist
Linda Buikema, a native Floridian, has lived off and on in Texas for 42 years. Drawn to art since a small child, Linda took every art class available in high school, including pottery at the local art museum. She graduated from The University of the South with a B.A. in Fine Arts with a focus on photography and drawing. After living in Dallas, Anchorage, Plano, Southern California, and England, Linda's family finally landed in Houston in 2000. The art scene there allowed for unlimited opportunities to learn and grow. She made painting her focus and looked for ways to distinguish her art from others.
Acrylics on canvas are her main medium, although she enjoys experimenting with collage and watercolors. Her palette is heavily influenced by her love for the original Key West Fabrics used by Lilly Pulitzer. For inspiration, she follows the art of Tracy Verdugo, Teil Duncan, and Erin Gregory. She moved to the Austin area in 2013 and became an active member of the Lakeway Painters. She has been painting with the Bunkhouse since April 2019 and finds lots of inspiration from the fellow artists out there.

Pat Flathouse is our Bunkhouse Gallery’s 🎨Featured Artist of the Month 🎨

Pat Flathouse, a native Texan who grew up in the Texas Panhandle, has for many years called Austin, Texas her home. Pat paints primarily in oils, a medium she learned from her maternal grandmother who was an artist. She is primarily self-taught although she has attended numerous classes and workshops since she began painting in the early 1960s. Her body of work includes mostly paintings of animals and flowers with a few landscapes sprinkled in.

Pat has been a member of the Bunkhouse Artists for several years and has participated in their last two shows. Pat is passionate about nature and its elements, and her day to day work reflects that passion.

Linda Wells is our Bunkhouse Gallery’s 🎨Featured Artist of the Month 🎨

She started painting when she was in High School in Victoria, TX. After three years in the Marine Corps, she studied art at Victoria Junior College and then went to the Texas Academy of Art in Houston. Her career included being an Art Director for two printing companies and on the staff of the Texas Parks and Wildlife Department’s Graphics department.
After I retired, she has focused on oil and pastel painting and Bob Rohm introduced her to plein air pastel painting and now Albert Handell is her main influence. She was always fascinated by the expansive paintings of the American West by Albert Bierstadt, Thomas Moran, and Frederic Re*****on. Then later by the French Impressionists.

Roger Seaman is our Bunkhouse Gallery’s Featured Artist of the Month 🎨

Roger grew up in Colorado, Wisconsin, and California in a family devoid of artists, musicians, chefs, or creative types. He started painting a bit in junior high and took a few painting classes in college, and when he retired in 2013 and moved to Austin, he immediately started painting and taking classes in art. He experiments with acrylics on canvas, wood, and sand, painting landscapes, portraits, still lifes, and animals.

Nancy Paton is our Bunkhouse Gallery’s Featured Artist of the Month 🎨
Realism with an expressionist’s palette is the best way to describe Nancy's paintings. She is a third-generation Texas painter and loves using bold and energetic colors that seem to leap off the canvas. Her subjects are organic and reflect her passion for seeing and capturing the amazing colors of nature.

Nancy paints in her south Austin studio and (virus allowing) with the prolific Bunkhouse Gang in Cypress Mill. She has exhibited in shows in Austin, Dripping Springs, Wimberly, and the Bunkhouse Show. She is currently represented in Sol'stice Outdoors in Dripping Springs, TX.

This month we’re featuring a talented artist Texas-based artist who currently resides in the Hill Country in central Texas - Barbara Rathwick! Her unique style sparks the imagination in a fun and playful way. Check out her astonishing art and Shop Online! https://www.bunkhousegallery.com/barbara-rathwick.html

From Barbara: "I like to think that the average one among us appreciates art in a more relaxed way, living with it and expecting it in public places. And I want to see more of it.
So, I paint for fun and as a personal learning project. Often, when I try a new challenge, I work at it and repeat to get it to a finished state. But I know that “finished” is only in the mind of the beholder, me."

We are very excited to present Jo Petersen as our 'Featured Artist' on the Bunkhouse Gallery website this month.
Jo is an active, abstract expressionist artist, has pursued her love of art for over five decades studying with exceptional art instructors throughout her career.
She said:... "I chose to concentrate on creating abstract paintings for the rest of my life, because of my love for design, and the excitement I feel from experiencing the unpredictable. It was my destiny. My best advice for other artists, follow what makes you feel alive."

"Dreaming of becoming an artist? No, however, I was always attending Museums, especially to view impressionists. Because of my love for the mountains and the seashore, these have become my favorite subject matter to paint. Even though I am a fast painter I keep a limited palette to create hue biased paintings that are harmonious." — Sally Fraser

John West is our Bunkhouse Gallery’s Feature Artist of the Month 🎨 John works in oil, acrylic, and watercolor in a wide range of styles and subject matter including landscapes, seascapes, still life, and portraits, but never strays too far from representational impressionism. He finds watercolor to be the most challenging and interesting.

Each of his paintings is an attempt to capture the emotion and mood of the subject, not just a likeness, typically using painterly elements of composition, color, or brushwork to make the viewer stop and look for a while, and hopefully feel an emotional.
