This Mother’s Day, we celebrate the mothers and mother figures who nurture creativity, preserve traditions, and help us understand who we are. 💐

At the Crow Museum of Asian Art, the stories woven through our exhibitions remind us how memory, identity, and family are often carried through the strength of mothers.

In our upcoming exhibition, "The Rainbow My Mother Shows Me: Echo Morgan" explores the enduring emotional bonds between mother and child through deeply personal storytelling and visual symbolism.

🗓️ On view Saturday, May 16, 2026 - Sunday, October 11, 2026

This ethnographic documentary examines the living oral tradition of the Kyrgyz Manas epic through the lens of Kulmat, a manaschy (epic storyteller) whose vocation was divinely ordained in a visionary dream. The film investigates the intersection of individual spiritual experience and collective cultural heritage, exploring Kulmat’s belief that the epic embodies the voices of ancestors. By documenting the challenges of preserving this intricate art form, the work highlights the dynamic interplay between tradition and modernity, shedding light on the evolving role of the manaschy in mentoring a new generation and ensuring cultural continuity in contemporary Kyrgyzstan.
