May we never forget that the freedoms and privileges we enjoy today have come at the high price of generations of men and women giving their lives for our country. With gratitude toward all who serve and have served, we wish everyone a thoughtful and safe Memorial Day.

Each year we celebrate a different aspect of the Great Danbury State Fair via an outdoor exhibit. This year, as we all commemorate the semiquincentennial of the United States, we’re sharing some of the patriotic displays from across the years at the Fair. Stop down and take a look at this mini-exhibit on our fence!

And if you’re looking for 250th-related activities, do visit Danbury250.org for activities in Bethel, Danbury, and at Putnam Park!

It is with very heavy hearts that we share the passing of Levi Newsome. For almost two decades Levi was a board member, staff member, and a true friend of the Danbury Museum. We honor the time and talent he poured into the organization, passionately advocating for a space for all to engage with history. We offer heartfelt sympathies to his family (Judie Newsome O'Donnell and Michael Newsome) and friends and all those in the greater Danbury community who loved him. Levi’s humor, wit, kindness, and curiosity about all things Danbury, will not be forgotten. We suggest a good Manhattan (his favorite cocktail, iykyk) in hand as you view this small collection of images celebrating Levi through the years. May his memory be a blessing to all who knew and loved him.

Thank you to everyone who joined us this past Saturday for our Cemetery Walk at Wooster Cemetery! We had glorious weather and an eager crowd of around 30 people for a talk that included famous Danburians, White Bronze, and cemetery history—plus a good stroll! (Photos by museum staff and Bethel Town Historian, Patrick Tierney Wild!)

Happy ! It’s been a long standing museum tradition to share a classic museum image with a photoshopped lightsaber or other Star Wars motif for day. Here are a few of our favorites!

May the fourth be with you. 😉
