Thank you to all who joined us (on SUCH a beautiful Saturday! Special thanks to our presenters, Nick Bellantoni (CT State Archaeologist, Emeritus) and Darlene Kascak of the Schaghticoke Tribal Nation and Education Outreach Ambassador at IAIS Museum & Research Center.

Both programs are part of the Danbury Museum's yearlong efforts to commemorate our nation's
Semiquincentennial.

There are SO many great activities and opportunities in our area this weekend!

We are very pleased to welcome Connecticut State Archaeologist (Emeritus) Nicholas Bellantoni to the Danbury Museum to talk about his book, Hiking Ruins in Southern New England on June 13, at 2pm. At 3 pm, we are pleased to welcome Darlene Kascak, Schaghticoke Tribal Nation and Education Outreach Ambassador at the Institute for American Indian Studies.

We have had such a great time partnering with our friends (and neighbors) in Bethel and Putnam Park for 250th programming! If you’re looking for Saturday fun, June 13, is Bethel250 - Bethel, CT big summer semiquincentennial celebration and they have something for everyone! If you’re not attending one of the Danbury Museum’s programs, we hope you’ll partake of one of the great events happening in Bethel this Saturday.

We are so excited to be partnering with on a very special commemoration of our nation’s 250th birthday! At 2pm we’ll be reciting the Declaration of Independence, followed by a short speaking program and patriotic sing-a-long. At 2:50pm we will be participating in the citywide and nationwide ringing of bells.

General Eisenhower’s June 6 Order of the Day address:

“Soldiers, Sailors, and Airmen of the Allied Expeditionary Force:

You are about to embark upon the Great Crusade, toward which we have striven these many months.

The eyes of the world are upon you. The hopes and prayers of liberty-loving people everywhere march with you.

In company with our brave Allies and brothers-in-arms on other Fronts you will bring about the destruction of the German war machine, the elimination of N**i tyranny over oppressed peoples of Europe, and security for ourselves in a free world.

Your task will not be an easy one. Your enemy is well trained, well equipped, and battle-hardened. He will fight savagely.

But this is the year 1944. Much has happened since the N**i triumphs of 1940-41. The United Nations have inflicted upon the Germans great defeats, in open battle, man-to-man. Our air offensive has seriously reduced their strength in the air and their capacity to wage war on the ground. Our Home Fronts have given us an overwhelming superiority in weapons and munitions of war, and placed at our disposal great reserves of trained fighting men. The tide has turned. The free men of the world are marching together to victory.

I have full confidence in your courage, devotion to duty, and skill in battle. We will accept nothing less than full victory.

What a fabulous photo donation we had earlier today! Some of these gents have instruments, a few have libations, but they all seem happy to be together and be photographed. Frank H Baisley is one of our finest photographers of record, and while we don’t know who these men are, we doff our collective hats to them and their ca 1931 linen flat caps and snazzy summer straw boaters! Huzzah and here’s to SUMMER!
