May is Preservation Month, and we are proud of the work our organization has been able to accomplish, thanks to the generosity of individual donors and grants from the National Trust for Historic Preservation.
The two buildings that are home to the Art Center of the Bluegrass and GLASS Museum Kentucky are a historic part of downtown Danville!
We are currently working to restore a ballroom on the third floor of 409 W. Main Street. Originally home to the local chapter of the Oddfellows, this space was in poor condition when our renovations began in 2023. Now, the ballroom is close to completion, and we hope to start making it available to the public in late summer.
Architect Garlan VanHook has sourced ceiling tiles from W.F. Norman Sheet Metal Manufacturing Company, of Nevada, Missouri. Using original 1898 dies, this century-old company has created approximately 474 panel, molding, and crown tiles in the style of the original tin ceiling. Shepherd Construction is currently installing them as they work to restore this once-beautiful ballroom.
