Message Body:
The Pennsylvania State Archives will be hosting a session of the in-person Archives Without Tears (AWOT) training this June at Susquehanna University, Selinsgrove. Please consider distributing the following information to your membership or contact list. Obviously, the attached brochure mentioned below is not in fact attached; please contact me at [email protected] and I will be happy to send it to you.

AWOT is a workshop that focuses on practical ways to preserve and make available the historical records in your care. Whether you are a curious individual collecting and caring for family or community materials, a local government employee tasked with records storage, a volunteer at a local historical society, the director of a large institution, or anyone in-between, we invite all to attend. You will receive practical advice and learn basic principles of archives.

Each workshop includes one full day (first day) and one half day (second day) of instruction.

History lovers,

On behalf of Lycoming Arts, I’d like to personally invite you and members of the Thomas T. Taber Museum and Lycoming County Historical Society to attend the Storytellers Book Fair presented by Lycoming Arts on Friday, May 15 from 4:00–7:00 PM at Pennington Lounge at Lycoming College.

This event brings together local and regional authors, illustrators, and creatives for an evening of connection and conversation. It’s also a great opportunity for readers, writers, and history enthusiasts to engage directly with the stories and people behind them.

We’re especially looking forward to a featured discussion with PJ Piccirillo, who will speak about his historical novel The Indigo Scarf, based on the true story of two enslaved men who fled into north-central Pennsylvania during the nineteenth century. As our region played a role in the Underground Railroad during this time period, this conversation and Q&A will offer meaningful local context and an opportunity to engage more deeply with this history. PJ is also the founder of the Writers Conference of Northern Appalachia (WCONA) and is deeply committed to preserving and sharing the stories of our region.

We’ll also feature John Shableski, General Manager at Otto Bookstore and a publishing expert, who will share insights on the writing and publishing process for aspiring authors.

If possible, I would greatly appreciate you sharing this event with your members, followers, or subscribers. We’d love to welcome those in your community who have an interest in history, storytelling, and the literary arts.

I’ve attached the most recent press release, an author photo of PJ Piccirillo, the cover of The Indigo Scarf, and the invitation poster for the Storytellers Book Fair for your use.

Event details and tickets can be found here:

Thank you for all you do to support history, education, and community engagement in our region. I hope you’ll be able to join us.
