Our next feature for our Discovering DuPage series is Darien Historical Society www.darienilhistory.org and the Old Lace Schoolhouse and Museum. The Darien Historical Society was formed in 1974, five years after the City of Darien was incorporated, to preserve local history and acquired the use of Old Lace School as its museum shortly after it was founded. The museum was officially dedicated on July 4, 1976, after some renovations were completed. The story of Darien begins in the 1830s with the settlement of two communities, Cass and Lace, which became the city of Darien. The mission of DHS is to collect and preserve archives and artifacts relating to the history of Darien and to serve as a resource for students, educators, historians, genealogists, and other interested persons. Located at the northwest corner of 75th Street & Cass Avenue, 7422 Cass Avenue, in Darien, the Old Lace Schoolhouse and Museum is open to the public on the first and third Sunday of every month, from 1:00 to 3:00 PM.
