Set up at the Adler Theater for the Pre-Concert Trick or Treating event ahead of the Quad City Symphony Orchestra's showing of Lion King this afternoon at 2pm. Then on to the Archives Fair at the Putnam until 4pm!

Film Reel Update: We've now come across a reel of Bill Donahoe's '73-'74 Bix Stomp as part of the collection of 16mm reels we have acquired. Based on shots we've been able to see, it features several bands and parts of their annual parade. The museum is currently looking into finding someone who can digitize 16mm film for us so we can make the videos available to watch. We are also digging into who the filmmaker of the reels are. The collection is now a total of 6 reels centered around the Bix Beiderbecke Memorial Jazz Band from 1971-1974.

"To Bix - My Idol - May he some day acquire all that is worthy of him $ - Jimmy"

Here is a photo Jimmy Dorsey gave to Bix with a personal message attached. This is one of several musician photographs the Bix Museum has in our archives that are signed/personalized. It comes from the Beiderbecke Family Collection part of our Archives located at the Richardson Sloane Special Collections Center in the Davenport Public Library.

We recommend listening to "Idolizing" while viewing this picture. 🎺🎶

Another post from the George Johnson scrapbook. Here is an arrangement of advertisements for various shows the Wolverines were a part of that George saved. My favorite detail is that George wasn't too happy that the newspaper left out Bob Gillette on banjo in the Cinderella ad, so he added it. He also corrected the Easter Ball card, where they spelled Gennett as "Sennett".

Many people recognize the most famous photo of Bix, often a version with writing dedicated to George Johnson, the saxophonist of the Wolverines Orchestra. What you might not know is that the museum owns George's scrapbook from his time with the Wolverines as part of our archives, and today we are sharing a couple of photos from that scrapbook. Here is a photo of Wolverines clarinetist Jimmy Hartwell, also dedicated to George, and a photo of Hoagy Carmichael in Palm Beach in 1925. We'll be sharing more as we continue to digitize some of our archives.

If you were considering a trip to the Bix Museum next week, we have some different hours due to volunteer availability. We will be open from 10am-2pm Sunday, Oct 11th for special hours. Open by appointment only Monday-Wednesday Oct 12th-14th. Then back to our regular hours Thursday-Saturday Oct 15th-17th. Sorry for any inconvenience this may cause. We rely on volunteers to keep the doors open, and sometimes we don't have enough. Reach out to our email if you are interested in an appointment or becoming a museum volunteer!

Just outside our doors is a bronze sculpture called "The Gossips" by artist Tom Lytle installed by the RDA in the early 2000s. We'd like to think they are gossiping about how great the new Bix Museum is! What do you think they are talking about?
