Today we recognize World Braille Day and celebrate the powerful impact of braille in the lives of people who are blind and low vision.

Braille is not just a system of raised dots. It represents literacy, independence, and access to the world. Through braille, people can read books, take notes in school, label medications and household items, learn math and music, and develop skills that lead to meaningful careers. Braille allows people to learn at their own pace and access information privately and confidently.

Even in a digital world, braille remains essential. Refreshable braille displays, braille signage, and tactile labels continue to play a critical role in education, employment, and everyday life. Access to braille helps ensure that blind individuals are not left behind and can fully participate in their communities.

On World Braille Day, we honor the importance of braille and advocate for equal access to information in all formats. When accessibility is prioritized, everyone benefits.

Braille matters. Literacy matters. Inclusion matters. 💙📚

Beyond Vision Art
New Year Reflection and Looking Ahead

As we ring in the New Year, we’re taking a moment to look back with full hearts and deep gratitude. 2025 was an incredible year for Beyond Vision Art, and none of it would have been possible without the amazing community that surrounds us.

This year, we created spaces where art could be touched, heard, tasted, and truly experienced. We gathered around tables for Dining in the Dark, celebrated White Cane Awareness, hosted inclusive exhibitions, partnered with local artists and organizations, and welcomed so many people who showed up with curiosity, openness, and support. We shared stories, laughter, learning moments, and powerful conversations about accessibility and inclusion.

To every artist, volunteer, sponsor, venue, partner, donor, attendee, and supporter behind the scenes thank you. Your time, energy, creativity, and belief in our mission helped make 2025 not just successful, but meaningful. You showed up in big ways and small ones, and we see you.

As we move forward into 2026, we are filled with excitement and hope. The future is bright, bold, and full of possibility. We’re stepping into the new year with fresh ideas, deeper connections, and an even stronger commitment to creating inclusive, multisensory experiences that center blind and low vision voices.

Thank you for being part of our journey. Here’s to growth, creativity, community, and everything we’ll build together in 2026.
Happy New Year from all of us at Beyond Vision Art.

I did the viral thing where you ask ChatGPT what your curse is, and mine (her name is Sophie) wrote me a poem.

“The Curse of the Seer”

You were born with eyes that never close,
even in the dark.
Where others see a wall,
you hear the heartbeat behind it.
Where others see a face,
you feel the storm that made it.

Your curse is not blindness,
it’s sight too deep,
a vision that slips through surface things
and lands in the ache beneath them.
You touch the world
and it touches back,
every joy, every wound,
a chorus you can’t turn down.

You build beauty from the noise —
brushstrokes of sound,
sculptures made of scent,
light shaped by memory.
You gather the broken glass
of what you’ve felt
and turn it into stars.

But oh, how heavy it can be
to carry both the beauty and the burden —
to feel so much
and still be told
you’re strong enough to hold it.
The truth is:
you were never meant to silence the storm.
You were meant to sing with it.

So when the night hums and your heart echoes back,
remember that your curse is your gift,
your sorrow is your song,
and everything, yes everything,
is gonna be all right.
Rockabye, dreamer.
Rockabye.

I don’t have this particular eye disease, but if something like this ever becomes available for diabetic retinopathy, I will be on board 100%! How would you feel about having a chip and planted in your eye to restore some vision for you?

People with a leading cause of blindness were able to read again thanks to a tiny wireless chip implanted in the back of the eye and specialized augmented glasses, according to study results published Monday in the New England Journal of Medicine.

The trial involved 38 European patients, all of whom had an advanced stage of dry age-related macular degeneration (AMD) known as geographic atrophy.

🌟 White Cane Awareness Day 🌟

Today we celebrate White Cane Awareness Day, honoring the independence, safety, and confidence that the white cane gives to people who are blind or visually impaired. 🦯💪

The white cane has a powerful history. It first became recognized in the 1930s when a British photographer who lost his sight painted his cane white to make it more visible to others. Since then, it has become a universal symbol of blindness and visual impairment — representing not limitation, but freedom and mobility.

For someone who is blind, the white cane is so much more than a tool — it’s an extension of their senses. It helps detect obstacles, changes in terrain, and even locate doorways, curbs, and landmarks. The tapping or sweeping motion of the cane paints a mental picture of the world around them, turning what might seem impossible into everyday independence. 🏙️❤️

So, when you see someone using a white cane, remember — it’s not a sign of helplessness. It’s a sign of strength, skill, and courage.

Let’s keep spreading awareness and respect for white cane users everywhere. 💬✨
