Mission: Our mission is to inspire people to work for greater peace and compassi

on through education and collaboration. Vision: We provide inspiration and the opportunity to learn alternatives to war, violence, and injustice. Our programs and exhibits are non-partisan, and secular, and feature themes of conflict resolution, equity, social justice, tolerance, and protecting our natural world. Posts and reposts that appear on this site are not official museum endorsements and are provided to encourage peaceful dialogue on many different topics, viewpoints, news items, and perspectives. We honor Dayton’s history as host of the 1995 Dayton Peace Accords and home to the most comprehensive exhibit of its kind on the subject. We believe strongly in collaboration with similarly-missioned organizations in the Miami Valley and in the world are active members of the Peace in Our Cities global initiative, the Austrian Service Abroad program, the Association of Children's Museums, and are active on the advisory board of the International Network of Museums of Peace based in Kyoto. Our programs include Building Peace: a series of guest speakers on special topics, the MLK Dialogues series, a Great Discussions program on current geopolitical events, quarterly exhibits, teen programs, guided meditation, yoga, a children’s summer camp, and an annual summer program for teens and adults on subjects ranging from Kingian Nonviolence training, compassion education, peace literacy to human rights. We are the official repository of each fiction and nonfiction book submitted annually to the Dayton Literary Peace Prize. Recent winners of the Richard Holbrooke Award include John Irving, Hala Alyan, and Ta-Nehisi Coates.

We were so grateful to welcome Maggie Paxson () back for another unforgettable evening of the Bomb Shelter Cafe!

Through music from the 1920s, ’30s, and ’40s, Maggie blended storytelling, history, and song in a way that was both educational and deeply engaging.

She has a special gift for drawing people in and creating moments of connection, reflection, and even joy. It truly was a magical night, and we’re thankful to everyone who joined us!

If you were there, please share your favorite moment in the comments.

A note from Alice Young-Basora, Executive Director of the Dayton International Peace Museum:

"We are deeply saddened to hear of the passing of Katie Meyer, who we worked closely with at Downtown Dayton Partnership. She was one of the most resilient and positive people I've known, even in the midst of what she was experiencing. We are tremendously grateful for her work and time spent here in Dayton. Though her time with us wasn't long, her impact will be felt forever."

Christine Dull was a force.

A force for peace.
A force for compassion.
A force for human connection, courage, and understanding.

We honor and remember Christine as one of the founders of the Dayton International Peace Museum, lifelong peace activist, and someone whose impact reached far beyond Dayton and touched communities around the world.

Christine devoted her life to building bridges between people and cultures. She traveled to nearly 50 countries as a peace ambassador, lived for six months on a collective farm in rural Ukraine during the Cold War to foster understanding between Americans and Soviets, stood for peace during the Dayton Peace Accords, and never stopped believing in the power of ordinary people to create change.

In 2003, after returning from Iraq and the United Nations, Christine was inspired to create a museum dedicated to peace. That vision became the Dayton International Peace Museum in 2004 and is a lasting gift to this community and to future generations.

We are profoundly grateful for Christine’s vision, leadership, and unwavering commitment to peace. Her legacy lives on in every conversation sparked, every life touched, and every person inspired to believe that a more compassionate world is possible.

Please keep everyone who loved Christine in your thoughts during this time.
