2016 AHF Inductee Ralph Nader forced the automotive industry to confront a hard truth — safety wasn’t where it needed to be.

His 1965 book Unsafe at Any Speed exposed critical design flaws in cars, sparking national debate and leading to the creation of modern vehicle safety standards, including seat belts, crash testing, and federal oversight.

At his 2016 induction, we recognized a legacy not built on horsepower — but on accountability.

A decade later, every safety feature we take for granted tells part of that story.
