We are honored and grateful to be among the 2026 grant recipients of the Rotary Club of DeLand.

Thank you for awarding more than $50,000 in community grants this year, and for including the DeLand Naval Air Station Museum among 24 organizations working to make West Volusia stronger.

Support like this helps us preserve the history of those who trained and served here, and share their stories with the next generation.

A heartfelt congratulations to President Larry Drumb on a remarkable year of leadership. Service, generosity, and impact were on full display, and we are proud to be part of a community that comes together with common purpose.

To the entire Rotary Club of DeLand, thank you for living out Service Above Self. Here's to your 100th year and to building a stronger future together.

Happy Flag Day from the DeLand Naval Air Station Museum

On June 14, 1777, the Continental Congress adopted the Stars and Stripes as the flag of the United States. Nearly 250 years later, that same flag still stands for the same things. Freedom. Sacrifice. The promise that we remember those who served beneath it.

Here at the museum, the flag is woven into nearly every story we tell.

It flew over Naval Air Station DeLand from 1942 to 1946 as young aviators trained for war. It draped the caskets of the more than 100 pilots and support troops who lost their lives in training before they ever reached the fight. It still flies on our grounds today, in their honor and in honor of every veteran who has served our country.

If you fly a flag at your home, on your porch, or in your front yard this weekend, take a moment to think about what it represents and who carried it before you. That quiet act of remembrance is one of the most powerful things any of us can do.

To every veteran, every active duty service member, and every Gold Star family: thank you. The flag belongs to you.

THANK YOU to The Rotary Club of Downtown DeLand for your incredible support of the DeLand Naval Air Station Museum!

We are honored to be among the organizations selected for the 2025–2026 Rotary Grant Giving program, and we are still feeling the warmth of such a special evening. Being in a room full of people pouring their time, energy, and generosity into West Volusia was nothing short of inspiring.
Your support helps us continue preserving the stories of the men and women who served at Naval Air Station DeLand, maintain our exhibits, and keep our doors open, free of charge, to every visitor, school group, and family who walks through them. This is how local history stays alive. Not by accident, but because a community decides it matters.

To every Rotarian, sponsor, and attendee who made this grant possible: thank you. You are helping us honor a legacy that shaped generations, and you are making sure the next generation gets to experience it too.
We are proud to stand alongside the other wonderful organizations recognized that night. What a gift to be part of a community that shows up like this.

A big THANK YOU to the Roots and Wings Homeschool Group for stopping by the DeLand Naval Air Station Museum!

What a joy it was to welcome your students and families today. Watching young learners explore the exhibits, ask thoughtful questions, and connect with the stories of the men and women who served right here in DeLand is exactly why we do what we do. The next generation carrying this history forward, that is the whole mission.

To the parents, teachers, and students of Roots and Wings: thank you for choosing to spend part of your day with us. We hope the visit sparked curiosity, conversations on the ride home, and maybe even a future historian or aviator or two.

You are welcome back anytime. There is always more to see, more to learn, and more stories to share.

Eighty-two years ago today, the largest seaborne invasion in history began.

On June 6, 1944, more than 156,000 Allied troops landed on the beaches of Normandy. Thousands never made it off the sand. Their courage broke the back of tyranny in Europe and changed the course of the 20th century.

We remember the soldiers, sailors, airmen, and Coast Guardsmen who stormed those beaches and the families back home who waited for word that never came for so many.

At the DeLand Naval Air Station Museum, we honor that generation every day by preserving the stories of those who served. Today, we pause to say their sacrifice is not forgotten.

πŸ‡ΊπŸ‡Έ "You are about to embark upon the Great Crusade, toward which we have striven these many months."

With great sadness, we announce the passing of Harold Bradeen, Historian, Curator and Lifetime Member of the DeLand Naval Air Station Museum.

Harold was 90 years old. Harold enlisted in the Vermont National Guard in 1952. He retired as a Master Sergeant in 1995, serving 43 years. His assignments included anti aircraft guns, Forward Observer/Motor Unit, Asst. Truck Master/Transportation, Platoon Sgt./Tank Company and in his final ten years served as a Tactical Intelligence Analyst.

Harold served as President of the museum for many years. He conducted public educational tours, guiding thousands of visitors (both adults and youth) through the museum, explaining restoration projects, vintage military memorabilia and shared history lessons through verbal and video presentations.

He worked tirelessly creating displays of the thousands of vintage items that were donated to the museum. His vast knowledge about military history was extraordinary. He was our friend and mentor and he will be greatly missed.

A service for Harold will be held today at 1:30 at Stetson Baptist Church on Spring Garden Avenue in DeLand.
