The Museum of Art - DeLand, Florida is an interactive non-profit community visual arts museum dedicated to the collection, preservation, study, exhibition, and educational use of the fine arts, serving as a cultural focus for Central Florida and beyond. The Museum of Art – DeLand is a vital and interactive 501 (c) (3) non-profit visual arts museum dedicated to the collection, preservation, study,

display and educational use of the fine arts. In addition to the permanent collection, the Museum is host to several rotating exhibits, gallery talks and receptions, educational programming, master artist workshops and special events throughout the year. Museum Offices are open Monday through Friday from 9 a.m. - 5 p.m.

Our docents will be exploring the stories, artists, and ideas behind our newest exhibitions. The tour is included with the price of gallery admission.

TONIGHT, AUGUST 28 – Join us for the opening reception of “Robert Ross: The Architecture of Light” alongside “Out of the Vault: Permanent Collection Curated”. Reception will be held from 5-6:30 p.m. with a talk by the artist from 6:30-7 p.m.

From urban landscapes and interiors to people in moments of candid activity, the paintings of Robert Ross are meditations on “visual moments” — views that seem to be suspended in time due to the way shapes, spaces, and light come together.

OPENING TOMORROW, AUGUST 28

“Robert Ross: The Architecture of Light” and “Out of the Vault: Permanent Collection Curated” will open from 5-7 p.m. at our downtown DeLand gallery space. The artist will join us from 6:30-7 p.m. with remarks on the exhibition.

Robert Ross paints the world around him. On his daily walks and driving around town, he takes note of scenes that catch his eye. He looks for the way trees, houses, streets, and sky interact and create ever-changing compositions. He sees shapes and spaces first, then light, shadows, and colors. Sometimes it is the process of painting that reveals visual moments to him. His work conveys a certain suspense, the sense that something has just happened, or is about to happen.

Sun down, brushes up. Art After Dark returns Friday, September 4! After the Museum has closed for the night, enjoy an exclusive guided tour and create an art piece while enjoying your own beer or wine.

Art After Dark is an evening event series for adults 21+. All supplies and instruction are provided, and no experience is necessary. Registration and payment required in advance. Cost is $20 for Museum members and $25 for future members.

✨ Coming soon: Two must-see exhibitions that inspire second glances. ✨ “Robert Ross: The Architecture of Light” and “Out of the Vault: Permanent Collection Curated” will be on view August 29–October 18.

Robert Ross paints the world around him. His meditations on visual moments offer views that are seemingly suspended in time. Transitional spaces, scenes of quiet stillness, and the mystery of the commonplace come together with light and form to create a palpable sense of anticipation – the sense that something has just happened, or is about to happen.

Meanwhile, “Out of the Vault: Permanent Collection Curated” captures moments of movement and stillness, presence and possibility – assembled from the Museum's permanent collection. Featured artists include Jack Mitchell, Jerome Witkin, Jerry Weiss, Les Slesnik, Reynier Llanes, Richard Segalman, William Entrekin, and more.

Volunteer Opportunity 🙋 We’re looking for a few great art lovers to help bring the Museum experience to life. The application period for our 2026/27 Docent Training Program is now open!

Docents serve our visitors through tours, community outreach, and other important educational offerings. Want to get involved? This program requires comprehensive training and a long-term volunteer commitment of at least one year. Our next New Docent Training Program starts soon, and applications are now being accepted. Training sessions will be held one Wednesday per month from 10:30 a.m. - 12 p.m. starting September 16.

The Museum is thrilled to welcome Natalie Thomas, our new Associate Curator of Art and Exhibitions! 🎊

Natalie has a background in exhibition curation and experience supporting the development of exhibitions that foster meaningful engagement with the visual arts. She earned a Bachelor of Arts in Studio Art from Stetson University in 2025, with a concentration in oil painting.

Committed to the mission of nonprofit arts organizations, she is passionate about advancing exhibitions and programs that connect diverse audiences with works of art that enrich the cultural life of the community. Please join us in welcoming Natalie to the team!
