The F.D. Crockett is in Smithfield this weekend!

Come visit the historic F.D. Crockett from the Deltaville Maritime Museum as she joins the festivities for Sail250 Maritime Rendezvous in Smithfield, VA. The town is celebrating with outdoor art shows, live music, themed dining experiences, and plenty of maritime heritage activities, all alongside Smithfield's regular weekend attractions.

If you're in the area, stop by the waterfront, explore the event, and say hello to the crew aboard the F.D. Crockett. It's a great opportunity to experience a piece of Chesapeake Bay history while enjoying a fun-filled weekend in one of Virginia's most charming towns.

🚤 Join the Crew of The Explorer — A Living Piece of Virginia History
The Deltaville Maritime Museum is building a dedicated volunteer crew for The Explorer, our full‑scale replica of Captain John Smith’s 1608 shallop. This remarkable vessel isn’t just an exhibit — it’s a working boat that represents the earliest chapters of Virginia’s maritime story.

To take The Explorer to events outside the museum, we must have a trained volunteer crew. Without at least four committed crew members, the boat simply can’t travel. And with VA250 happening this year, this is our moment to bring The Explorer back onto the water and share her with the Commonwealth.

🌟 We’re looking for volunteers who:
Love history, boats, teamwork, or hands‑on learning

Want to be part of the future of The Explorer

Can commit to training sessions and occasional events

Want to represent Deltaville and Middlesex County at regional festivals and VA250 commemorations

Are excited to help keep this unique vessel active and visible

Serving on The Explorer’s crew means:

Learning traditional boat handling

Helping preserve and operate a historically significant replica

Traveling with the museum to special events
