Barb Gal shares: “Every photograph tells a story; but for me, photography is also a family legacy spanning nearly 150 years.

I have been behind the camera since the age of 10, following a family tradition of photography that dates back to the 1880s in Poland. Since 1977, I have exhibited my photography in local, statewide and national exhibitions. Before embracing digital photography, I spent years hand-printing my own Ilfochromes, developing a deep appreciation for the craft of fine art photography.

Since 1988, I have also created artist's books, exhibiting them in both solo and group exhibitions. The combination of photography, storytelling and book arts continues to influence my creative practice.

For 31 years, I taught art, photography and bookmaking, a career that brought me tremendous joy. After retiring from the classroom, I continued teaching workshops at Anderson Ranch and in the Art Education programs at Rocky Mountain College of Art & Design and the University of Denver.

Now fully retired, I have the freedom to focus on my own artistic practice and travel in search of new photographic inspiration and materials for my artist's books. I am a member of NEXT Gallery and a founding member of 40 West Arts. My work can be found through both organizations and on their websites.”

Catch her latest exhibition at Elliott Gardens now through the end of August. Open M-F 9-5, Sat 8-5, Sun 8-4.
