“Stone & Gold” — the interior of Christ Church Cathedral, Dublin, Ireland.

What held me in that room was the organ loft, tucked behind a dark trio of columns. Most of the space stays in shadow even with gold just two arches away — the light finds one small loft and little else, as if the room keeps its own schedule.

This one’s part of an ongoing series I’ve been building around cathedrals and quiet spaces — more on that soon.

She averted her gaze as I watched her from the balcony above — a bronze Statue of Liberty in the Musée d’Orsay, Paris.

France’s gift to the United States, delivered ten years late. She means more to me now than she used to — as much sadness as hope.

I painted her against the gold of the old station behind her, in a brighter palette than I usually reach for.

“Closing Time at Bigsby’s” found its person on Friday.
Jo and I worked together at the National MS Society years ago. She later told me that she wanted one of my paintings. Last First Friday, with 73 Art Agency, she finally did — and did the honors of the red sticker herself.
Her words, better than anything I could write: “They rang the bell when I said I wanted to buy it, I got to add a red sticker to indicate it was sold, and they played ‘Jolene’ over the loudspeaker.”
That’s the job, some nights — not just making the painting, but waiting for the right person to ring the bell.

Most people don’t commission a painting of a building. They commission the feeling of coming home to it.

This one’s a home here in Denver — a rebuild, with brick and a front porch that pulls you in. What caught me was the front door: that warm wood against the cool stone and a wide blue sky behind the roofline. Everything in the piece leans toward it, the way a porch light does at the end of a day.

I'm pleased to share that my work will be included in "Vacation Mode: Visions from Elsewhere" at 73 Art Agency in Denver.

The opening reception is this First Friday at 2601 Blake Street (basement level), and I’d love for you to stop by. The theme feels especially fitting for my work — places remembered, places imagined, and those strange little moments from elsewhere that keep tugging at us.
