The Kirkland merged with the Denver Art Museum in October 2024, and as of June 2025 is fully aligned with matching hours, bilingual text, and accessibility for all ages. The Kirkland features three collection areas:
• International Decorative Arts from Arts & Crafts to Postmodern design, with particular strengths in Art Deco and Midcentury Modern. Look for furniture by Frank Lloyd Wright and Charles and Ray Eames, examples from every American Art Pottery company, and dinnerware and lighting fixtures from every era.
• Colorado Fine Art from the mid-19th century to the present including many of the founding member of the Artists' Club that founded the Denver Art Museum and colleagues and students of namesake Vance Kirkland.
• A retrospective of Colorado’s distinguished painter, Vance Kirkland (1904–1981), with examples of his five painting periods spanning from Realism to Surrealism to abstraction.

Which of these delicious American Art Deco vanity sets would you choose, perhaps to help you get ready for a New Year’s Bash? Both are Depression Glass. The green color is an opaque milk glass referred to as Jadeite, which became highly collectable. Jadeite was often made with trace amounts of uranium, which causes it to glow under a black UV light!

The blue is a stunning transparent color. Its faceted edges are pure Deco, though it was molded and didn’t require any specialized work by hand. They are both the cat’s meow! Come and see them on Mabel’s vanity, featured in our special exhibition, “Vanity & Vice: American Art Deco”!

Is it Haley’s “Ruba Rombic” or Kopp’s “Modernistic” glass? Nicolas Kopp was a glass chemist who worked on colors for Consolidated Glass Company in the late 1920s, where he worked with Reuben Haley. Haley designed Ruba Rombic, a cubist glass line, in 1928. Soon after, Kopp launch his own similar Modernistic line. manufactured by his own company, Kopp Glass. Ruba Rombic has crisper, more sophisticated edges and shapes, though both are stunning and very collectable. Can you tell which are by Haley and which are by Kopp? Scroll for answers! And don’t miss seeing all of these examples in “Vanity & Vice: American Art Deco”! Image Captions: Ruba Rombic (No. 829) Ashtray, 1928, designed by Reuben Haley.
