Thank you, Clear Lake.

Last night the Clear Lake Arts Center opened the Stanton Gallery for the artist reception of Windbent, Waterworn, and I couldn’t have asked for a better evening. I got to talk about the driftwood, the milkweed, the copper wire, and the wind and water that shaped all of it. Everyone who came was curious and fully engaged, and the questions and conversations were a joy. It was a lovely to share this work with you.

A big thank you to Faith and the entire Clear Lake Arts Center staff. You made the whole experience feel easy and welcoming, and I’m so grateful.

Afterward, Tim and I toasted at local distiller 173 Craft Distillery with a celebratory cocktail.

Windbent, Waterworn is on view in the Stanton Gallery through December 30, so come see it, and bring a friend.

Yesterday I had the pleasure of joining three fellow artists for a panel at Kirkwood Community College, talking with students about The Business of Making Art.

These students were curious, thoughtful, and full of great questions. I’m pretty sure I left with more energy than I gave.

Afterward, they hosted a reception for our exhibit in the Kirkwood Gallery, and it was a joy to see the work in such a great space, surrounded by people who cared about it.

Some people go to the lake to relax. I go to the lake to shop for free materials. Spent Sunday at Saylorville picking out driftwood. Freshly cleaned and dried driftwood that is headed to the studio.
They will be used in pieces headed to the Invitational Art Fair at the Val Air Ballroom, November 6 & 7. The lake did the hard part of shaping them. I’ll take it from here.

Windbent, Waterworn is open.
This show is my love letter to nature: to the prairie grass that bows and springs back, to the driftwood the lake hands over smooth, to the milkweed pods that split open and let go.
Clay vessels meet copper wire, jute, stone, and driftwood. Some of them lean. Some are mended. All of them are shaped by something bigger than they are.
