Tall ships are coming to Detroit and you can volunteer at "Sail Detroit"!

They are looking for volunteers to fill a variety of roles and shifts during next weekend's event. In return for your time, you'll enjoy two free anytime passes (worth $100 each), breaks, light lunch, water, hat and a monogrammed T-Shirt. You'll also have access to the docked vessels and their crews!

You can explore volunteer opportunities on their website and sign up today to take part in an unforgettable weekend. https://www.saildetroit.com

This is the event John Jamian spoke about when he addressed our club at the April Port Opening meeting. More info at: www.saildetroit.com

Sail Detroit is officially one week away! We wish smooth sailing upon all the tall ships as they make their way to us and we can't wait to anchor down with the ships and crew ⚓

The Propeller Club of Detroit held its annual Port Opening meeting on April 10th at Bayview Yacht Club.
Mr. John Jamian, Director of Operations for the Detroit Wayne County Port Authority, gave us an update on "Sail Detroit", the Tall Ships event taking place on the Detroit Riverfront this August. Mr. Jamian joins us each year for our Port Opening event and it is always enjoyable and interesting to hear about the new things going on at the DWCPA mixed in with his many humorous and captivating maritime related anecdotes.

Our featured speaker of the day, Capt. Richard Armstrong, Commander of USCG Detroit Sector, gave an entertaining and informative presentation on some of the solutions to the many predicaments and challenges that the USCG encountered on the Great Lakes over the winter of 2024-2025. The membership enjoyed it tremendously and we thank Capt. Armstrong for staying and fielding several questions during the following Q & A session. What a terrific presentation.

We thank both Mr. Jamian and Capt. Armstrong for making it a great meeting.

Our next Meeting is May 14th at the Voyageur Restaurant in St. Clair, MI at 6:30 pm
