Our Valentine’s gift to you — Mary Ann Monforton: 𝘏𝘦𝘢𝘳𝘵 𝘓𝘢𝘯𝘥 has been extended through Sunday, March 15.

With sharp and tender humor, 𝘏𝘦𝘢𝘳𝘵 𝘓𝘢𝘯𝘥 reimagines icons of American wealth and ambition—from luxury goods to space conquest—exposing their parody within the confines of domestic space.

View the exhibition Thursday-Sunday from 11am-5pm at Mike Kelley’s 𝘔𝘰𝘣𝘪𝘭𝘦 𝘏𝘰𝘮𝘦𝘴𝘵𝘦𝘢𝘥, accessible via 55 E. Canfield during MOCAD’s main building renovation.

As part of MOCAD’s 20th Anniversary, we are revisiting exhibitions that were formative to the shaping of our institution as well as recognizing the great artists of our time. Beyond that, what better opportunity would there be to celebrate this year’s 2026 Eminent Artist — !

Having opened in Fall of 2018, 2+2=8: Thirty Years of Heidelberg was a retrospective ode to Guyton’s multi-decade outdoor installation — the Heidelberg Project. Guided by an equation that informed the installation as a site of interdimensional travel, infinite possibility and community archive, 2+2=8  remains one of MOCAD’s greatest examples of showing work by Detroiters for Detroiters. It was also our Artistic Director ‘s curatorial debut at MOCAD, so this exhibition remains special in more ways than one. Congratulations, Tyree! This honor is so well deserved!!

MOCAD’s Phase 1 of the main building restoration is nearing completion! Last night we had an opportunity to walk through the building with a few of our Board Members, Emerging Patron Council, General Contractors , Architects , and MOCAD Staff. The Albert Kahn building that houses MOCAD, originally built in 1906, has seen many different lives — we look forward to welcoming you back on Saturday, April 25 to see its most recent iteration.

As part of MOCAD’s 20th Anniversary, we revisit exhibitions that expanded the museum’s engagement with sound, memory, and collective experience. Paradox of Harmonics was the first solo museum presentation in the United States by multidisciplinary artist Nep Sidhu.

The exhibition brought together mixed media works, tapestries, sculpture, painting, video, and a commissioned omnidirectional sound structure. These elements formed an immersive installation through which visitors encountered layered rhythms, material histories, and spatialized sound.

Grounded in embodied listening, cultural continuity, and improvisational practice, Sidhu’s work positioned listening as both a mode of perception and a communal act—foregrounding intergenerational knowledge, memory, and shared experience.

In conjunction with this reflection, a friendly reminder will be in Detroit this week, participating in a public conversation presented by with fellow artist and friend of MOCAD this Wednesday Feb 3rd! 5-7pm! 🕺🏽❗️🕺🏽
