COMMUNITY UPDATE
https://restore.harbour.tdmec.org
We want to take a moment to publicly thank Loflin Environmental Services, Inc. and owner Mr. Jim Murray for generously stepping forward to provide asbestos inspection and testing for the Harbour Playhouse.
This is more than a serviceโitโs a commitment to our community, to the arts, and to honoring the legacies of Mrs. Bennie Nipper and Ziyanna Jones.
This kind of support is exactly what makes Dickinson special. It reflects the spirit of partnership we know exists hereโpeople stepping up when it matters most.
We are truly grateful.
and
A sincere thank you to Engineer Mr. Jeffrey Bishop, P.E., for stepping forward to provide the structural analysis of the Harbour Playhouse.
This critical step will help determine the path forward for restoration, and his willingness to lend his expertise speaks volumes about his commitment to this community.
This is the kind of partnership and support that defines Dickinsonโpeople coming together to preserve something meaningful.
We are incredibly grateful for his leadership and support.
The future of the Harbour Playhouse is still alive โ and we now have an opportunity to prove that restoration is possible.

On March 12th, testimony was heard in Case No. 25-000729 regarding the condition of the Harbour Playhouse building. The judge issued a very fair and thoughtful order that gives us the chance to demonstrate whether this historic landmark can realistically be restored instead of demolished.
Before the next court date on April 16th, we must provide:
A Structural Engineerโs Report to determine if the building is viable for restoration
A Mold Mitigation Report and cost estimate
A repair plan that would begin with mold remediation, followed by roof replacement, if the structure is deemed sound
If the engineerโs expert conclusion confirms that the building is structurally viable, we will be allowed to move forward with the first phase of restoration in accordance with City regulations.
This is a very important moment for our community.
The Dickinson Music Enrichment Center is a small nonprofit organization, and our financial resources are committed first and foremost to the children and families we serve in Dickinson. Because of this, we are stepping forward in faith and asking for help from the community to complete the reports and work required by the court.
We are praying that those who have the expertise needed may feel moved to assist us, understanding that in many cases compensation may come in the form of a tax-deductible donation, community recognition, or simply the knowledge that you helped preserve a treasured landmark for future generations.
Please do not feel discouraged if you are not able to help in this way or at this time. If this project is placed on your heart, we believe there will always be another way and another time to support the mission. Every form of encouragement, connection, and goodwill helps move this effort forward.
We are currently seeking assistance from individuals or companies with experience in:
Structural engineering
Asbestos inspection / remediation
Roofing / roof replacement
Building restoration in accordance with city regulations
