Tim and Deb Applegate fell in love with Colorado on their ski trips from Connecticut and made the move in 2016. Partnering with Shevy Rashidi, Tim helped turn a dirt-floor space into what became Sauce on the Blue. Today, Sauce proudly celebrates 10 straight years of “Best in Summit.”

Beyond the restaurant, Tim has served 6 years on Silverthorne Town Council and continues giving back through generous community food donations.

Join us August 1, 2026, at the Vintage Baseball Game for Sauce’s famous hot dogs. Be sure to visit Sauce on the Blue, KÚCU Tequila Bistro, and Enza’s Delicatessen for some of Silverthorne’s best dining!

Ever wondered how Ruby Ranch got its name? Meet Ruby Lowe, rancher, educator, and author. Ruby and husband Charlie arrived at what would become Lowe Ranch in 1930 as caretakers, eventually purchasing the property. Ruby taught school across Summit County, served six years as school superintendent, and was known for her backcountry horseback rides.

After decades of ranching, the land became the Ruby Ranch neighborhood we know today. Ruby later captured it all in her book Reflections of Ruby, a charming account of ranch life in Summit County.

In the late 1800s and early 1900s, Swedish immigrants including Lundgren, Lindstrom, Forslund, Lund, and Wahlstrom, built new lives in Summit County's lower Blue River valley. Claiming land under the Homestead Act, they successfully transitioned from mining to ranching and timber production.
T
hey also left an architectural legacy: the saddle notch log cabin, a Swedish construction style featuring curved notches that lock logs tightly together, creating warmer, more weather-tight homes perfect for winters. You can see an example today at Historic Park in Dillon.

Gold in the Deer's Teeth! Before becoming the founding force behind the Denver Museum of Nature & Science, Edwin Carter came to Colorado as a gold rush placer miner in 1858. Legend has it he discovered gold near Silverthorne after spotting shiny particles in a deer's teeth and following its tracks to a nearby stream!
He wasn't alone, Silverthorne itself is named after Judge Marshel Silverthorn, who discovered the Ryan Gulch placer mine nearby.
Much of modern Silverthorne still sits atop early placer mining sites.
