Some artwork asks you to look. Arnolds Andersons’ work asks you to look closer.

Through idealized male figures and a dreamlike blend of reality and surrealism, Andersons explores identity, intimacy, vulnerability, and the freedom to exist openly as oneself.

As a gay man who grew up in post-Soviet Latvia, Andersons understands the weight of feeling unseen or unable to fully express who you are. That experience is woven into his work, making his paintings more than beautiful compositions. They are deeply personal reflections on visibility, acceptance, and the courage to claim space.

There is power in seeing q***r identity represented with beauty, tenderness, and confidence. Andersons’ paintings invite us to move beyond judgment and simply see the humanity in one another.

This is what makes his work so important and why we’re honored to share it with our community.

Meet Arnolds Andersons.

Working between Riga and London, Latvian artist Arnolds Andersons creates captivating paintings where light, color, and emotion take center stage.

Growing up as a gay man in post-Soviet Latvia, Andersons experienced the constraints and complexities of expressing his identity in a culture where homosexuality remains a divisive subject. His experiences continue to inform his work, which embraces male beauty, intimacy, and q***r identity with honesty and unapologetic confidence.

His latest paintings blend reality and surrealism, pairing expressive color with idealized figures and moments of quiet reflection. Each work invites us to look closer, not only at the figure, but at the emotions, stories, and sense of identity held within.
