🤍 A Memory from Drummond Island's Past 🤍

One of the best parts of this page is the stories that come with the photographs.

After sharing this 1963 photo of the old "Hurry Back" sign, Linda Rade Baker shared memories of visiting Drummond Island with her family. They stayed at Vechell's Resort, spent their days fishing, walked the Maxton Plains, and even made a trip to the old dump to see bears.

She recalled family vacations filled with fishing, island adventures, and the friendships that made Drummond feel like a second home. One story that made us smile was her memory of seeing a bear at the dump and watching her mother run back to the car faster than she'd ever seen before.

Linda also shared memories of Hank and Grace from Chuck's and wrote, "I think they still dance at Chuck's at night when it's closed." ❤️

Thank you, Linda, for sharing these wonderful memories and helping preserve a little piece of Drummond Island history. Stories like these remind us that the island isn't just a destination, it's a place that becomes part of people's lives for generations.

Do you have a favorite Drummond Island memory? We'd love to hear it in the comments.

From fishing boats and ferries to swimming at the beach, family camp weekends, and long summer days out on the lake, so many memories here begin on the shoreline.

Let’s see your favorite throwback on the water… bonus points if it’s in black and white.

One of our favorite things about Drummond Island history is realizing how many ordinary moments eventually become part of the story.

The old ferry rides.
Family fish fries.
Camp photos tucked into albums.
Kids jumping off docks.
Storms on the lake.
Long winters and muddy springs.

Years later, those small moments become the memories people treasure most.

If you have an old Drummond Island photo or memory, share it in the comments. We love seeing the island through everyone’s stories. 🤍

May on Drummond Island 🌿🌸

One quiet morning, you notice it, the first green pushing through last year’s leaves, tiny buds forming where winter once held on.

Across the island, the forest floor begins to bloom again.

Trillium open like little stars in the woods,
Lady's slipper rise slowly, almost shy,
and each small flower feels like a reminder,
this has all happened before, for generations.

Long before roads and ferry schedules, these blooms marked the seasons here. They were the first sign that winter had truly let go and that life on the island was beginning again.

There’s something special about that first sighting each year, like the island is letting you in on a secret.

When you see the first buds of spring start to pop, post your pictures in the comments 🌸

Let’s watch Drummond Island bloom together.

⛴️ The Drummond Island Ferry ⛴️

For generations, the ferry has been more than transportation to Drummond Island—it has been a lifeline.

It carried families, supplies, visitors, and stories across the water. It marked arrivals and departures, seasons changing, and the steady rhythm of island life. Long before modern conveniences, the ferry connected people to home, work, and one another.

Photos like these remind us that island life has always depended on cooperation, patience, and trust in the crossing. The ferry isn’t just a route, it is part of the experience.
