"June", 1975

“June”
The new green holds antelope
to the ground like unfeathered birds.
Their fur ruffled with white spots
and their legs thin as the river willows.

A young girl came striding toward them.
Blown from caves in mountains,
her breath remembered the coolness
of gullies and the juice of flowers.

They nibbled her fingers of sweet grass.
When she went stepping across the fields,
they moved at her side, felt the earth
fall from their hooves.

I realized that this site is primarily for my Father's art work, but as his son and protege, please forgive me for posting a piece of mine. After a thirty month haitus from doing much artwork while I recovered from a stroke, I have been working in the shop lately, and I want to post my last piece.

Although not currently on display in the Museum, some of you might remember seeing it in years past. Many other paintings, wood carvings, bronzes, and metal sculptures can be seen at the Ohrmann Museum and Gallery located two miles south of Drummond, Montana, on Highway 1 (you will see the big Woolly Mammoth, Polar Bear, and other sculptures in the yard). We are open intermittently, so to see the artwork please text or call 406-360-4397, or e-mail [email protected] to schedule a time when I can open up for you. I live close by, so if you call I can probably open up on short notice.

If you live in Western Montana, I would encourage you to save the shipping charges and come out to the Museum in person. It is a beautiful drive from wherever you are to Drummond, and you would enjoy looking at the paintings and sculptures.

On the deserts of the world such as the Kalahari, the animals suffer for months at a time for want of water. If I was in charge I'd send a rain shower once in a while.
If not, then perhaps a child with a golden bucket.

“May”
Bone of beast and plant stem are green.
The new skeleton, carved and shaped as ivory
waits for the first growth of fur and feather.
The young bird holds to a branch,
opens and folds his spotted wings.
The fawn is not dead. It sleeps
until the slender blades of grass are grown
and the mountain streams fill with water and trout.
Each spring the mountains break to water.
