Join us for a full day of programming and celebration at DuMA tomorrow, October 24.

The Art of the Sac and Fox Nations Convening starts at 10 am, led by Sauk artists, curators, historians, and scholars.

The reception for "Echoes of Time and Place: Sauk Art and Culture," from 5 to 8 pm, is a chance to take a closer look at a landmark exhibition and mingle with the curators and artists.

Delve into the details of “Echoes of Time and Place: Sauk Art and Culture” at the Art of the Sac and Fox Nation Convening on Saturday, October 24 starting at 10 am. The curators of the exhibition, as well as other Sauk artists, historians, and scholars will discuss the exhibition, Sac and Fox creative traditions, history, cultural revitalization, artistic self-agency, and more.

The "Echoes of Time and Place" Reception will take place that evening from 5 to 8 pm.

Join us for the Inaugural Art of the Sac and Fox Nation Convening led by Sauk artists, historians, curators, and scholars starting at 10 am next Saturday, October 24, with a reception following at 5 pm for “Echoes of Time and Place: Sauk Art and Culture.”

The Convening is an opportunity for Sauk artists to gather, collaborate, and learn from Native museum professionals about Sac and Fox creative traditions, cultural revitalization, and exhibiting Indigenous works in predominantly white institutions. The public is welcome to attend to learn about the Sac and Fox Nation and the artists in the “Echoes of Time and Place” exhibition.

Admittance to the galleries and evening reception is included with ticket purchase, $18 for DuMA members and $30 for non-members. For those who would like to attend only the reception, general admission applies.

The Inaugural Art of the Sac and Fox Nations Convening is funded by the Terra Foundation for American Art.

NEXT THURSDAY!! Come see Downtown Dubuque from two wheels!

Dubuque Forward is joining The Flat Iowa Society Bicycle Club and their Thursday After Work Group (TAWG) for a beginner-friendly bike ride next Thursday, October 8!

We’ll roll out from Jubeck New World Brewing at 5:30 p.m. for a relaxed, 60-minute ride featuring downtown’s new bike lanes and Dubuque Forward projects along the way.

We’ll finish at the Millwork Night Market. Riders can drop your bike at Dubuque Forward's free bike valet at the Lumber Shed building (250 E. 8th St.), grab a free b**r ticket courtesy of Bicycle World and explore the market!

We hope you can join us! All experience levels are welcome.

We had a wonderful time at the Latinx Fiesta—hearing from the “Entre Tonos” artists, playing Lotería, making crafts, and seeing everyone explore our two new exhibitions.

Thank you to Beau Stanton for "Metamorphosis"—the mural that debuted at the 2026 BECOMING Gala.

"Highlighting the dynamic life cycle of the Eastern Redbud (Cercis canadensis), the site-specific mural "Metamorphosis" flows through the tree’s vivid seasonal transformations. Overlapping forms organically bridge spring’s magenta blossoms, summer’s rich foliage, golden autumn hues, and the bare silhouette of winter. United in a continuous composition, these seasonal expressions reflect the steady, cyclical rhythm of the natural world."

About the Artist
A multi-disciplinary artist, Stanton’s work takes many forms. Often appearing in unconventional venues, his work has been installed in a 13th Century crypt, on the Berlin Wall, across the electronic billboards of Times Square, and in galleries and on walls worldwide.

Over the past 20 years Stanton has developed a unique visual language informed by historic layers, mythology, and universal symbols. Employing these elements he seeks to draw parallels between past narratives and contemporary human challenges such as environmental conservation, a warming planet, and our role in the natural world. The expression of these ideas manifests in different mediums including painting, mosaic, stained glass, animation, and most notably, murals. As of today, he has created over 60 public artworks in 25 cities across 16 countries. Notable project partners include The Nature Conservancy, the Albright Knox Museum, Times Square Arts, When We All Vote, The World Trade Center, PangeaSeed Foundation, The Explorers Club, The US Embassy to Italy, Wynwood Walls, and The Atlantic Magazine.
