We are heartbroken to share that a Maine Game Warden died this morning following a plane crash in Avon, near Schoolhouse Pond. The crash occurred at approximately 11:00 a.m.

This is a devastating loss for the Maine Warden Service, our Department, and the people of Maine. Our thoughts are with the family, loved ones, colleagues, and all those impacted by this tragedy.

We will share additional information as it becomes available.

We will be open from 10-2pm today! ๐ŸŒธ๐ŸŒผ

In honor of Women's History Month, we remember conservationist Mollie Beattie, who was appointed the first female director of the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service in 1993.

During her three-year tenure, she oversaw the creation of 15 new national wildlife refuges and established over 100 new habitat conservation plans. She also oversaw the successful reintroduction of the gray wolf to the Northern Rockies, and fought off efforts to weaken the Endangered Species Act.

After sadly passing away of cancer in 1996 at the age of 49, Congress renamed the 8-million acre Arctic National Wildlife Refuge Wilderness to the Mollie Beattie Wilderness. And one of the first wolf packs reintroduced into Yellowstone National Park was renamed "Mollie's Pack" in her honor.

She also said something that needs to be remembered by everyone, especially today: "What a country chooses to save is what a country chooses to say about itself."

The North American Game Warden Museum Scholarship recipients were announced at the NAWEOA Conference this past July.

Congratulations to this yearโ€™s scholarship winners Hailey K. and Colby M.. Both applicants maintain a 4.0 GPA, are active in their community and are Varsity letter athletes. Both applicants are children of active Game Wardens in their respective State Colorado Parks and Wildlife and Virginia Department of Wildlife Resources Conservation Police Association.

We wish them both success as they pursue their degree.

Applications from both US and Canadian students are accepted and reviewed by a Committee. The student application is reviewed based on their plans to major in some type of natural resource management and/or conservation law enforcement degree program, their overall academic progress, and volunteer/community spirit and actions. They do not need to be a relative of a current or former Game Warden and may apply each year during the pursuit of their degree. Applications open in January and close May 30 or each year.

**Your support and donations make this program possible. If you would like your donation to be specifically set aside for the Scholarship Program please reach out directly to [email protected].
