SNEAK PEEK! This a portion of the painting I am currently working on. Come see the whole thing in progress, today ! I'll be there from 1-8pm. Live music by "Sourdough Gypsy" too! Come in out of the rain and say hello!

When I say part of my side hustle includes stripping, this is what I mean. 😅
This is the best time of year to peel the bark off freshly cut birch trees. Over the course of the summer I will craft these raw materials into one-of-a-kind birch bark baskets. It's a lovely way to spend evenings by the campfire. ❤️

I'm thrilled to share that 'Arctic Sky' has found a new home! Getting the news from last night was a wonderful surprise. It's truly gratifying for an artist to know their work is loved and valued.

I just picked up my freshly matted art from today. I love how they put it all together and the individual pieces flow together as one. Which is perfect, because it was inspired by a yoga flow. 🧘‍♀️ The hands positions are from the sequence. The images convey the idea of giving love, kindness and compassion to yourself, the Earth, the living things you are aware of, and the universe. I have gained a lot of insight and inspiration from yoga this year. I'm glad I decided to give it a try. 🥰

This weekend was all about trying not to hurt myself at the gym and in the studio. Like using swear words with goo gone and sandpaper to remove copper leafing from a painting I'm pretty sure I'll love after I finish destroying it. And let's not forget Barre class... and attempting some kind of "monkey splits" pose in yoga while simultaneously questioning life choices. I'm gonna need a hot soak... and an ice pack... and possibly a therapist. 😅

Fresh off the easel (so I will stop messing with it).
I'm trying to loosen up my technique a bit, so I went with a comfortable subject, but tried a different approach. I used liquid or very thinned down acrylic to use some watercolor techniques I enjoy. I let a little tiny bit of the canvas show through (against all my "normal" rules with canvas). I used one single brush for the entire painting. I splatter painted to my hearts content. And when I started getting too "serious", I pulled out the florescent green paint. 💚 The green paint was to remind me of my intention, with the added bonus of making the colors in the fur pop.

24X36 Acrylic on canvas.

What A Day!
I mean, if you're going to spend the day painting, might as well have live music too, right? "Sourdough Gypsy" was the perfect soundtrack to my evening as I made good progress on my painting.
I feel so blessed to have opportunities like this. Thank you for all the good vibes. ❤️🎨🎶 I was totally in my happy place today. 🤗

Wow... there's A LOT going on this Saturday! If you're in Anchorage, swing by Stephan Fine Arts Gallery after the rally (or whatever) and tell me all about it! (I can only be there for the beginning). You'll find me inside the Hotel Captain Cook, cheering you on in spirit while trying to finish this painting. 😊🎨☮️

Sunday funday! I'm experimenting with these high flow acrylics that I found at this weekend. I love the watercolor-like effect I was able to get with it on my canvas. I think I will bring these projects to next Saturday for "wet paint weekend" to continue the experiment, and maybe even finish them up.
