At the MSU Museum, creativity happens at the intersections of arts, sciences, cultures, and technologies. From student-curated exhibitions and immersive experiences to artist residencies and hands-on exploration with collections, we believe creativity helps us better understand a rapidly changing world.

Is the MSU Museum really free?
Yes!

Admission is free, and our public programs are too. That is not a marketing strategy. It reflects MSU’s land-grant mission and the belief that knowledge and learning should be accessible to everyone.

Whether you are a student, faculty member, visiting scholar, or curious community member, the door is open.

As Movement Electronic Music Festival weekend begins in Detroit, we are looking back at some unforgettable moments from "Techno Futures" at the MSU Museum, including innovative producer and DJ Carl Craig.

Carl Craig, who founded the original Detroit Electronic Music Festival, brought his visionary approach to sound, technology, and creativity to the Museum this year through the MSUFCU Arts Power Up residency in collaboration with FRIB. His residency will culminate in a new exhibition opening at the MSU Museum in January 2027, continuing a collaboration that explores the intersections of music, science, technology, and creative experimentation.

to a moment of transformation at the MSU Museum.

This historic photo captures construction of Habitat Hall inside the Museum decades ago, a reminder that museums are always evolving to support new ideas, new research, and new ways for people to connect with the world around them.

Today, that spirit of transformation continues. Following the Museum’s recent renovation, we’re building on our long history while creating new spaces for interdisciplinary learning, immersive experiences, and hands-on exploration across the arts, sciences, cultures, and technologies.

What does it mean to be an interdisciplinary museum?

At the MSU Museum, we bring together the arts, sciences, cultures, and technologies to explore the questions shaping our world. From scientific collections to contemporary art and emerging technologies, our exhibitions are designed to spark curiosity, connection, and conversation across disciplines.

Because the future doesn’t fit into a single field.
