The Museum of Ceramics

The Museum of Ceramics 4000+ objects, 2 floors of exhibits. Known as the Pottery Capital of the US. See dozens of 1930s paintings, including one of only 71 post office murals in Ohio.

Visit the Museum of Ceramics to see locally produced treasures from the 19th century to the present. This is the only museum in the United States celebrating the history of hundreds of potteries in one small geographic area over three centuries. Collection of over four thousand objects highlights ware made mainly within five miles of East Liverpool. We have the nation's largest public display of a

ward-winning Victorian porcelain Lotus Ware. See dioramas with figures which bring history alive. Elementary and middle schoolers enjoy our Scavenger Hunt - just ask when you arrive. See the ceramic trophy celebrating a carrier pigeon's flight, and a rare 1850s hand marbled water cooler. See our display of 48 shaving mugs. Enjoy spotting priceless examples of late 19th century hand decorated ironstone ware. Just as every person has a story, so too does every item on display! We are a cultural resource for our community and a tourist attraction for visitors from across this nation, and from almost fifty other nations in recent years.

Thursday Time Capsule at the Museum of Ceramics with Laura Zeh.

Today’s photograph captures the 1903 flood of Jethro.
In 1838, land developer Nathaniel Martin is credited with laying out the original Village of Jethro, located west of East Liverpool near the residence of Thomas Fawcett. The community later expanded through the “L. Pickle Addition” around 1874 before being annexed into the East Liverpool Corporation limits in 1877.
This image offers a glimpse into the early history and hardships faced by the residents of this once-separate village.

Friday Find with Laura Zeh

On a recent visit to Mark’s Landing, I had the pleasure of sitting at a table featuring the history of the Acme Craftware Company. The tabletop included photographs, historical information, and even pieces of Weeping Gold china embedded right into the table itself!

The Acme Craftware Company was founded in Wellsville, Ohio in 1941. One of its most popular wares was Weeping Gold, featuring 22K gold decoration. Weeping Gold became popular in mid-century American homes.
