The late great Richard Pepitone was the very first artist to collaborate with Vladimir at Funk & Schuster. A Provincetown legend, Richard worked in sculpture, ceramics, glass, collage, and printmaking for over five decades.

At the time they started working together, Richard admitted he felt stuck - bored from repeating the same forms & techniques. But after learning new lithograph techniques with Vlad, he said the process “breathed life back into him.” Vlad still calls that the greatest compliment of his career — and it fuels his passion to keep teaching and collaborating today.

✨ Interested in collaborating with Vlad? DM us to learn more.

Come see Richard’s works alongside many other incredible pieces at Rugosa Gallery tonight for the Funk & Schuster closing reception 🌸

Who is Vladimir Schuster?

From Minsk to Provincetown, Vladimir Schuster’s story is as layered as his prints.

Born in Belarus in 1953, he first stepped into the arts as a teenage cameraman before serving in the Soviet Army as a Morse code operator (and winning 2nd best in the USSR!).

After immigrating to the U.S., Vlad built a career as a master electrician turned master printer — helping countless artists bring their visions to life.

Come see this incredible body of work; and meet Vlad!

“A friend of mine was getting rid of their printing press, and I asked Billy Evaul — the legendary white line woodblock printmaker — if he thought it was a good idea to set up a printmaking studio in Provincetown for local artists.

Billy said, ‘Sure, that’s a great idea!’

…Then he was a little shocked when I sent him a video of the presses being lifted into the studio by a crane. The machines were a lot bigger than he expected.

That was the start of Funk & Schuster.”

- From Vlad, owner & print master of Funk & Schuster:

“Funk and Schuster’s growing collection of prints reflects the unique diversity and creative spirit that is Provincetown. Artists come to the studio with their own ideas, approaches, and methods which evolve throughout the process.

Vladimir Schuster works with artists from around the world to create high quality prints using relief, monoprinting and lithography”.

What is a Lithograph? 🖼️

A lithograph is a timeless printmaking technique that artists have cherished for centuries. Unlike digital reproductions, each lithograph is created by hand—drawn directly on stone or metal, then pressed onto paper. This process captures the artist’s gesture, texture, and energy in a way that feels alive.

Come see lithographs created over the last decade by dozens of talented artists and printed by Master Printer Vladimir Schuster at our upcoming show:
