We're up to full power! We have been getting the shop ready for the annual Tuckahoe Steam and Gas Association show this week! Over the last couple of years we have belted several new machines to the lineshaft, giving an extra load for our power source. The old belting began slipping, and the modern V belts started wearing and tearing. A refurbished wood drive pulley was installed, along with new flat belting and a new banded V-belt -- all to get our shop up to full speed!

Come see our shop in action July 10-13 in Easton Maryland!

Moving in and Moving out!

Over the last few months we have been making a few changes to the machinery we have in the museum. We are continually looking at the unique machinery we have to display, and selecting the best of what represents the Eastern Shore of Maryland in a historic machine shop. Here our volunteers are moving in a Becker milling machine that will be restored and moving out a Dalton combination Lathe and milling machine.

Come out to see all the changes we have made at the annual summer show, July 10-13!

Our shop was quiet this weekend as most of our volunteers spent time at the Patina Tools annual show. If you didn’t go, certainly add this to your list! There is a tool for everyone there!

Work has been progressing on the restoration of the shop's 1882-1886 Putnam gap bed lathe. After being painted, our volunteers started reassembling the machine. The head stock was mostly in pieces when it was donated to Tuckahoe, and our volunteer team had to literally piece it together! We are hopeful to have this machine restored and ready to run soon!

🔥 HOT TOPIC 🔥

Check out Christian Benefiel and crew operating a coke-fired coupola furnace, melting and pouring iron for a variety of castings. This demonstration was provided by the group at the annual Tuckahoe show, and certainly impressed the audience as liquid iron over 2,700°F was poured!

Thank you to everyone who came out to see us during the annual show! We had many visitors despite the rain and heat, and ran many machines throughout the weekend. In case you missed it, here's a clip of our 1923 Bullard Vertical Turret Lathe turning a cast pulley. This pulley was patterened from an original pulley, and made slightly larger so it could be turned to the same size. When complete, this pulley will power our older 1903 bullard turret lathe!
