Due to family leave for the director, we’ll be ending a bit early this semester with our last show this Thursday, April 17 at 7:00 PM. Additionally, the director will be on sabbatical in the fall, so public and private shows will resume in February 2026.

In the meantime, check out the wonderful astronomy outreach activities put on by our friends at the Chippewa Valley Astronomical Society, including public talks and observing at Beaver Creek Reserve and the upcoming Astronomy Day on May 03.

We’ve got a partial solar eclipse happening tomorrow (Saturday, October 14, 2023)! We’ll have a few experts operating solar telescopes for you to safely observe this rare event outside of Phillips Hall at UWEC late Saturday morning.

Right now, weather forecasts show a brief break in the overcast and rainy skies tomorrow morning, so we may get to catch a glimpse of the partial solar eclipse. The weather is unpredictable, though, so PLEASE CHECK THIS PAGE before coming to make sure we have not called off the event.

And regardless of tomorrow’s weather, the skies are always clear in the L.E. Phillips Planetarium! Our public shows on Thrusday nights this semester explore how and why we have eclipses, as well as why some eclipses are total and some, like this one, are annular. Come check it out!
