Here’s an interesting piece of cycling history. The Cycocycle is basically a unicycle with training wheels. There are no handlebars, you steer with you steer with your legs. The 20” frame folds flat so it can be easily stored in a trunk.

This week’s project is a rare 1992 (?) Japanese Miyata Team bike. This was donated to me as a frame and fork only and I believe that it was also originally sold as a frame and fork. I plan to finish it with all period correct Japanese components. I will probably need to order new decals. Will post progress pictures.

Here’s a beautiful 1984 Raleigh USA Team racing bike built with lightweight Reynolds 753 tubing. The black seat stays and fork are unique to this high end model. This model sold as frame and fork only. This will be up and on display by this Saturday. I have my museum open to the public every Saturday from 10-2.

My 1897 Acme Stormer #25 is finished and on display in my Museum. I purchased this one many years ago and as a frame fork and crank. The chain wheel was the clue as to its origin. I searched for years to find the correct Stormer head badge. I believe that these are very rare bikes. I’ve included a little history of Acme and the way it looked when I bought it. These originally sold for $40 which is $1624 after inflation.

The 2000 Trek R200 recumbent is finished and on display. I’m probably the only guy in Elizabeth with a pair of these. This was the only Trek recumbent model ever built. They were sold in 1999 and 2000. These had a short wheel base with an aluminum frame and 40 gear options.

The 1995 S*M (Swingrover & Moeller) BMX is finally finished and on display at my museum in the front window. The early frames were outsources but they are still in business today in Santa Anna California. I believe that most of these were sold as frame only and the buyer or bike shop owner completed the bike. This frame was probably finished by a shop in Rockford or Freeport, Illinois.

The next project is a 2000 Trek R200 recumbent. Only recumbent that Trek ever built. This was only offered for about 2 years with a MSRP of $1749.00 The project was abandoned by Trek and all remaining inventory was sold to a buyer that apparently dumped them on the internet for $600 each. I am very interested in this bike. It has 40 Sram gear options, aluminum frame, comfortable adjustable seat, short wheel base (SWB) and is relatively light weight. As a collector, I like that it was only built for a short period making it a rare oddity. It’s in very good condition so it won’t take long to get it out on display. Replacement parts are probably going to be hard to find if needed. Specs in last photo.

Unfortunately this one is not getting rebuilt. In my opinion it wasn’t worth the time or money for restoration. I realized that one of the prior owners had used sandpaper on the finishes and chrome. The chainguard had been welded, the seat was torn and the tank headlight assembly was broken in areas. I was able to salvage a good set of wheels and a few rare parts. Girls bikes from this era aren’t in great demand these days. Sorry to disappoint.

Next week’s restoration project is a Huffy Galaxie middle weight single speed cruiser. It was probably on the high end of the Huffy line up with chrome fenders, tank with double headlights and a rear rack. It appears to be all original parts, paint and decals. I’m guessing that it is from the mid 60’s. It should come back to life by the end of the week.

The 1965 Sears chrome Fleetwood is restored and on display. This 3 speed ladies bike was probably built by Murray of Ohio for Sears. Some of the Fleetwoods were built in Austria in 65. Sears marketed this bike as a “lightweight” with 26 x 1 3/8 wheels. They sold new for $49.95 ($531.00 in today’s money) The museum in Elizabeth will be open tomorrow and every Saturday from 10-2. Admission is always free.
