Author Michael Harris will be the speaker at the Winters Heritage House Museum’s Spot of Tea and 250 Years of History on Wednesday, June 17, 2026 at 1:00 p.m

His first book, Brandywine: A Military History of the Battle that Lost Philadelphia but Saved America, September 11, 1777, was awarded the American Revolution Round Table of Richmond Book Award in 2014.

Michael Harris will present "An Overview of the Fighting Along the Delaware River in 1777" and sign copies of his books.

It serves as a powerful reminder that on June 14, 1777, the Second Continental Congress adopted the design of the first American flag.

Congress resolved that:

“The flag of the United States be thirteen stripes, alternate red and white; that the union be thirteen stars, white in a blue field, representing a new constellation.”

Today, we celebrate Flag Day and honor the enduring symbol of our nation’s unity, perseverance, and freedom.

The Winters Heritage House Museum Quilt Show is open today, Saturday, June 13, from 10:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m.

Come explore a beautiful collection of modern and historic quilts created by members of the Winters Heritage House Quilters Group, their grandmothers and great-grandmothers, as well as members of our local community.

The quilt pictured has become a fan favorite for many reasons. Completed in the 1890s, this treasured family heirloom belongs to the family of Laurie Williamson, a member of the WHHM Quilters Group. Visitors are captivated by its remarkable craftsmanship, intricate detailing, and exceptional hand stitching. More than a century later, it remains a beautiful example of the artistry and dedication of the women who created it.

We invite you to stop by, admire these works of art, and discover the stories stitched into every quilt.

We look forward to hosting Nelson Polite and Sylvia Cavanaugh as we continue exploring the people, places, and events that have shaped the American story. Their presentation will highlight the rich African American heritage of Lancaster’s Southeast Neighborhood and its important place in our shared history.

This presentation is a part of our Spot of Tea and 250 Years of History Speaker Series offered Wednesday, June 10, at 1pm at the H. U. Coble House located at 33 E High St Elizabethtown.

Today at the Winters Heritage House Museum Quilt Show, we were delighted to welcome the family of Louise Sottiaux Verstichelen, who was originally from Brussels, Belgium.

One of the highlights of the visit came from Louise’s great-great-great-granddaughter, who proudly declared that the pictured quilt was her favorite of all the quilts on display—simply because she loves the color yellow!

Moments like these remind us that quilts are more than fabric and thread. They are family stories, treasured memories, and connections that span generations and continents.

Thank you to the Verstichelen family for visiting and for sharing a piece of your family's quilting history.

Did you know Captain Thomas Harris, an Irish immigrant, built a log cabin along Conoy Creek and established a trading post and tavern in what is now known as Elizabethtown? Did you know in colonial times a shoemaker was an essential craftsman? Using leather, wooden pegs, and simple hand tools, the shoemaker created footwear for farmers, merchants, and travelers journeying along the Great Road, which ran through Elizabethtown. If you did know, and even if you did not know, join friends and neighbors for an afternoon of fun and Elizabethtown history at the Trivia Luncheon!

The Winters Heritage House Museum is ready for you to visit our beautiful quilt show. On display are quilts made by family members from our Quilters Group. One was made in 1899! Read the stories behind the fabric, quilter, or the reason behind making the quilt.
Purchase a sweet treat available here, from a local eatery. Then relax on the porch of our H.U. Coble House as you sip some lemonade or tea. Color a picture or play a family game in our backyard. Walk through our colonial garden taken care of by our Winters Heritage House Garden volunteers.

Quilt guild member Carrie Leitzell brought in quilts from three generations - one she made, a wall hanging by her mother, and quilts from two different grandmothers. These quilts hold cherished memories of loved ones and celebrate the bond formed by heritage crafts. Discover more memories at the annual Quilt Show. Now through June 27.
