Workshops coming up at the Arts Council!

The Wonky Spoon Art Wellness Class: Bud Vase Workshop - FREE! - June 26, 10 am

Use woodcarving tools to shape a vase from a rough block of wood. This is the first in a planned monthly series of art classes focused on community, wellness and nature. To register, email [email protected] or call 252-996-0324.

The Pour II: The Art of Transferring Wisdom Between Generations - $45 - July 25, 11 am

Don't miss this year's Elkton Juneteenth Community Celebration, coming up this Friday at the Elkton Community Center!

The festivities will feature Maryland's Poet Laureate Lady Brion, hip hop artist Jon Bolds and African arts ensemble Xaala Mainama. There will also be food, community resources, family-friendly activities, the Roots of Resilience exhibit and a talk on the history of the Underground Railroad in Cecil County by Historical Society of Cecil County's Mike Dixon.

Art opportunity!

Applications are open to participate in "The Other Side," an exhibit of artwork by trans artists from Maryland that will be on display at The Peale from December 2026–January 2027.

"The Other Side" is a group exhibition featuring work by transgender artists of Maryland to be exhibited at The Peale Community Museum in December 2026-January 2027. Showcasing a wide array of creative skill sets, this exhibition focuses on the power of art as an act of triumph and remembrance. The Other Side works to expand a misunderstood narrative of trans experience by celebrating trans community, diversity, and persistence.

"250 Year, Still Becoming"

The Arts Council will be hosting a special exhibit from July–December in recognition of the U.S. 250th anniversary. Submissions will be open to the public. Works must be 2D, hangable, and available to stay on display for 6 months. They can be sold or marked as not for sale.

If you are interested, you can read the full submission guidelines here: https://www.cecilarts.org/250-anniversary-exhibit/. Please plan to drop the artwork off at the Arts Council between June 27–July 2. The exhibit will open alongside our July "Paper Goods" Exhibit.

Rather than presenting history as a finished story, "250 Years, Still Becoming" invites artists to reflect on the idea that both place and democracy are works in progress.

This exhibition centers contemporary, personal, and reflective interpretations of the past, present, and future; what has endured, what has changed, and what is still unfolding. Artists are encouraged to consider Maryland and/or the nation through lived experience, memory, identity, place, freedom, contradiction, and possibility.

Exhibition Overview In 2026, Maryland and the United States mark 250 years since the nation’s founding. Rather than presenting history as a finished story, 250 Years, Still Becoming invites artists to reflect on the idea that both place and democracy are ongoing works in progress.

The Arts Council's June exhibit is our Annual Member Show!

For instructions on submitting your artwork, see our Call for Entries! Annual Member Show. Submissions are limited to CCAC members, but it's easy to join! You can learn more here: https://www.cecilarts.org/become-a-member/

Submissions run from May 30–June 4. The exhibit will be on display June 5–26, with an opening reception June 5 from 5–8 p.m.
